GP 100 Half Lug sight change
« on: February 20, 2008, 03:23:14 PM »
Hey All:
I just ordered a GP100 Half lug 6" SS, but I'm going to have to change the sights to some thing like a fire sight.
Any one done this? Can the average Joe do this task or will I have to take it to a smith?
It's my first handgun and I want to use it for hunting but the factory sights are a bit hard for me to to see.
Looks like a heck of a good gun and I been looking at a lot of guns before this one won me over.
Any info is appreciated.

i paint the factory front sight a bright red, and i leave the white outline on the rear sight.   some fluorescent paint will maybe give you what you want; but you sound like you've got your mind made up for something else.    is the 'fire sight' one of those plastic sights that picks up light and kind of glows?   if so, they strike me as a rather fragile affair on most firearms.    i'd rather get some tritium night sights.

a book in the library, or a 'search' on the web can show you the schematic for that revolver if it doesn't come (like it should!) with an instruction manual.    you'll see how easily they are taken apart with the right tools and a little patience.

i give you an 'A' on your purchase.     i'd give you an 'A+' if you'd gotten the full lug revolver.    it actually handles very well from the one i've used.

take care,

ss'

Safetysheriff:
No; my mind is not made up, your response is just what I'm looking for.
Like I said this is my first hand gun and I'm kind of dumb when it comes to them. I'll also need some help on a holster but I need to look at whats out there to even ask the right questions.
I decided on the half lug to get the 41oz to 43oz.  as this gun will be a ride a long most of the time unless the right shot comes up.
I think the full lug look better but the half fit my needs and a "c+" student will take an "A" any time.
Thanks for the help.
