This is it.......snow, sleet, the ground is white...bet the coyotes are playing tag, while I am here stuck at work.....nothing like a snow day , when coyote hunting....and it happens so rarely here in SE Missouri .....weatherman says , it'll warm up all night....so it will probably melt by Sat......oh well, wont stop me from going......have 204 will travel.

So here it is Saturday ......had a successful hunt this am ...not alot of snow left...but the water standing around, was frozen...so it still looked white...one lone male coyote ran in on me this am about 9:25........thanks to some good camo...I think I surprised him, cause he sure surprised me....I was scanning and glassing to my left, overlooking about 200 acres of "layout proud".......most of the ones I have seen , have come from that direction , despite the wind or weather...but I noticed something slashing in on my right about 80 yards out...he stopped , frozen stare at me....then  trotted on ...my  CZ 204 was clean and accurate..., and he ran a few yards and dropped.  stepped off about 100 yards...32 grain v max..seemed to be plenty ....entered his left side....lung shot...did not exit..

Gonna hit it again tomorrow at a different location...,,better than sleepin in .....

Thanks......well, as luck would have it, I also went out Sunday am ...and sat through a really nice 1 hour snow.....covered the ground, but really limited visibility for a while.....after, I saw a ton of ducks...but no coyotes......so I was skunked Sunday.....but funny how one closed door may open another....saw a very nice Tom turkey walking in a cornfield ( from last yr) ...his head was bright red and had a nice beard....I will scout that area a few more times....so I may have secured a Tom...while I was looking for coyotes......bottom line is, you gotta get out......if you wanna get something ......

Glad to here someone scored. I used to get to hunt after work with some friends and days like you describe really get you going.  I have three kids now and the same guys still go hunting after work but my responsibilities won't allow me to go anymore.  I miss it so much.  Sat I went out to enjoy the same missouri weather you are describing and was skunked  on 2 sets.   Then sunday I caught a break my wife did not feel up to going to church she turned her back and like a our old bird dog I was gone.  Spent the day from 9:00 am till 2 pm  made three sets with another fellow and got skunked.  Made me sad this may represent a dry year for me as I won't hunt much deeper in the year so as to protect the "crop" for next year.  And with my work and kids might not get to go but once or twice more.  Our rodent population is way down, maybe the big dec ice storm got them?  But a hawk setting in a tree is sorta rare and they are usually on every other  high line pole and tree.   That is what has lead me to believe our rodent are down.  The dogs population that is usually so great around here is also down.
