Gaucho!
« on: February 21, 2008, 10:09:10 AM »
I was able to free up a little cash last week so I was going to buy a second 'New' Vaquero to go with my SS 4 3/4" .45.  But when my Gunsmith priced it, he also priced a Gaucho from CDNN.  Long story short, I ended up buying two Gauchos with consecutive serial numbers in Stainless with 5 1/2" barrels for about a hundred dollars more.  So that will be my matching guns for my Cowboy double rig this summer.  Now my shinney New Vaquero will become a 'working' gun instead of a 'show' gun.  I spent some time this morning and was able to fit my pair of stags to the Gauchos.  That was fortunate for I had already altered them to fit the New Vaquero.  Pretty neat!  Range reports will have to wait until it warms up a little.  It was -12 at my house this morning!  44 Man.

Very nice.  Stag looks so nice on stainless.  How do you find the time to handle all those nice guns...and still eat?

Very Sweet. A perfectly matched pair of six guns is just like a perfectly matched pair of...never mind.

Can you tell us more about the Gaucho? I have to admit my ignorance on this make/model.

The 'Gaucho' is made by Taurus.  It has a transfer bar type action but retains the 4 'clicks' to the hammer pull that many single action fans enjoy.  It is nicely made and has a smooth action.  The bad news is that it appears to be out of production.  Whether they did not sell enough to justify it or what, I don't know.  The good news is that several distributors are blowing them out right now for $300 or less which is what I paid for mine.

Hey .44 Man, Do you have an interest in shooting SASS? There are some gun clubs that are doing that and they are not too far from where you live. Greeen River, is a memeber here and he shoots CAS too. It would be fun to see you at some shoots if you are interested and those Gauchos would work fine for that.

I got a chance to fire them off the back porch Thursday.  Everything functioned fine and although I could not shoot for group, they made nice holes in the snow where they were supposed to.  I'm happy!  44 Man
