Virgin Valley 6x223
« on: July 07, 2003, 02:16:30 PM »
I have a 22 inch bull barrel in 6x223 and am getting ready to start serious load work with 68 gr Remington BR bullets and Hornday 80 single shot pistol bullets.  I have plenty of WW748, N-133 and some H-4895.  I have made my cases with Lapua 223 brass and have on hand Remington 7 1/2 primers and fed 205 match.  Anyone have any experience loading for the 6x223.  Any suggestions will be appreciated.  I have loading manuals but was looking for experience with the 6x223.  Thanks. :-D

havn't loaded for 6x45, but i have loaded 6x47(.222magnum necked up) and now i'm loading for 6mmtcu. all in handguns. h322 and imr 4198 worked fine in accuracy for the 15" 6x47 bullberry contender. sierra 60gr hp and sierra 80gr single shot bullet was the bullets i loaded for 6x47.
in the super 14" 6tcu, h335 works super with sierra 80gr single shot bullets. as a matter of fact, i've had three different barrels shoot the sierra 80gr sspb very accurately. that bullet might be worth a try if you don't get the accuracy you want. :D

Thanks for the input.  Sierra 80 gr single shot bullets is what I have instead of Hornady.

You may want to try AA2230 or H335. I have been shooting the 6mm-223 for over 17 years and found these two powders to give higher velocities than the H322.

But on the other hand, I have not found a powder more accurate than H322 in this round.

NOrmally, groups open up by about 1/2 inch using 335 and 2230 more than using H322, at least in my 14" contender. Groups go from about 1/4 to 1/2 inch groups to 3/4-1" at 100 yds.

It's not a rifle, but I have used this round quite a bit and thought I would provide you my .02 on the powders I have found successful.

Good LUck, it's a great round for anything up to Mulies with 80gr. bullets.

HL :D

Thanks for the input.  I just got back from the range using W748 and V-133 and the accuracy was great.  Now got to go back with chrono and get serious about work ups.  I'm using Remington 68 gr BR bullets (left over from the 70's) and Sierra 80 gr SSP bullets.
