Rifled 12 ga. barrel blanks
« on: February 21, 2008, 01:41:58 PM »
I am looking for blank 12 ga rifled barrels. I have an old High Standard Pump I want to make a dedicated slug gun out of. I would like a tapered barrel but can live with a straight tube also. I figure that having the barrel screwed tight into the receiver would help in the accuracy receiver.

I'm having a a gunsmith build a custom slug gun, and I had him put a Badger Barrel on it. He told me today that at 50 yards with Federal Barnes 2 3/4 inch  3/4 oz tipped slugs he could cover them up with a quarter. They have a lot of experience in the barrel business.

I'm not sure on the length(probably 24 inches), but 12 gauge Badger barrels have a 1 in 26 twist. The faster twist tends to stabilize the faster sabot slugs with muzzle velocities of 1800 FPS plus.

Prior to Ithaca's sale and move to Ohio, Badger Barrels were producing their rifled slug barrels, for the Ithaca 37 and the other aftermarket barrels they were selling. I don't know if Badger barrels are still making barrels for the new Ithaca however.

Here's a link to Badger barrels site:

Al Wink man is 100% correct about Badger barrels. The barrel length is 24 inches and it is 1/26 twist. They did a bunch of barrels for Ithica, now there on there own. They tried to develop American Barrel Co, but the person running it dropped the ball, now it's all done through Badger barrel. The receiver I'm using is an 1187 12 ga, with a Monte Carlo stock and the new super cell recoil pad from Remington. I had a gold trigger put in, with a trigger job, the receiver was drilled and tapped for a mount, and the barrel was pinned, and the all the metal parts done in a stainless type of finish from Meta- Life. All through the company I've used before called Da-mar. Who have the pat toned on the mount and sell it through Brownell's. The model of the gun is called the "Da-mar Corsaro Twelve" Its a combination of different components that make up one heck of a some what custom slug gun without spending $3000. It runs around $1200. Either way if you just get a Badger barrel I think you'll be happy, and Da-mar can order them with a cantilever, deer sights, or smooth with nothing if you want to put a mount on.
