Your love hate gun
« on: February 22, 2008, 08:38:37 AM »
Lets try something new.  Everyone owns a gun they love.  Do you have one you hate but just can't sell?

   1) 1909 Arg Mauser 7.65x53 Sporter(kinda)  It was a gunsmith student project. The action and thumbtang safety were done right bit it stops there.  It shoots well but has only two bullet selections.  I'd like to do this gun right with a 260 Rem barrel and some other bells and whistles but alas the money isn't there.  So I love to hate that gun.  Someday I'll give her the plastic surgury it deserves and start a new love affair.
   2) Marlin 450 Guide gun.  First the only thing you should use it on in Ca is pig and even then it's overkill.  To add insult to injury I've had two shoulder surgeries and will undergo another soon.  I think I put 5 rounds thru it cleaned it and haven't shot it in 5 yrs.  Alas it was a forgive me present from my hunting partner after his dog tried to eat my nose  >:(  Isure wish he asked before he bought ;)

Remington 591. Shot like a 17hmr. People keep promising ammo but no show.

An old  Browning BBR in 2506.  Ugly as can be, but still shoots good.

Only firearm I ever owned(for 2 weeks, was lucky enough to find a poor soul that wanted to part with his $$) and hated was a pos Savage 12gauge in the mid 80's. Since that time, haven't owned a firearm one that I didn't love.

Mine is a cheep, ugly Rem 788 in 222. The trigger has been reworked and it is a real shooter. I just wish it looked nicer!

Rem M700 KS Mountain rifle in 30/06 that I bought from the Kittery Trading Post in Maine.  It's a custom shop demo and I got it for $500, has a MacMillin kevlar stock, is glass bed, has a trigger job and a 24" lite sporter barrel.  It's my quintessential 2nd rifle even though it's accurate and has killed a slew of game.  I don't know why but it's never my 1st choice ....and then again....it'll be buried with me.

..and then again....it'll be buried with me.

Lets hope that won't be any time soon.

I've got a safe full of guns, but my go to is usually an old beater .35 remington with a fixed 4X nikon prostaff.......

I don't know why I like it so much.....it isn't all that accurate but shoots about 2 1/2 inches at 100 yards........it isn't real pretty.......but some how still gets hunted with more than any other gun I own......

Most of my hunting is in the hardwoods where 100 yards is a very long shot.......

Maybe I like the nostalgia of a lever action..........When I hunt the clear cuts I go to the .270 but also hunt an 06 on occasion....I used to take my .243 for this type of hunting and have been very successful with it......but now leave it home as I found out on the internet that it wasn't enough for deer.........good thing the deer don't surf the net! :)

Win. mod. 70 in 30-06 , post 64 , stock has filler from the factory and white line spacers , no matter the lube you try the bolt feels like something is holding it back and at a 100 yards it will shoot 2-3 in groups !
if it had not been a birthday present from Mom and Dad it would have been gone 30 years ago !
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

For me it's this Parker-Hale 1200V which does not want to shoot consistently despite cleaning and a re-do of the bedding:-

Am at a loss as to what to do with it now.

You are in luck, Centurian has started making and selling the 5mm ammo. They have already sold a load of it so the price should be down to normal soon. Check it out!!

A Mossberg any thing.

I've owned a 500 shotgun, a 22 mag and a 22 LR and they were all a POS right to the very end.

I'll never own another mossberg any thing.

Been there also, fortunately it was a buddy's mossberg, not mine!

My love hate rifle is a Rem 700 CDL 243, I love the looks of the rifle but in all honesty it is my least accurate rifle.  I have never been able in the almost three years I have owned it to shoot a 1/2" or better five shot group.  My other rifles in 22-250, 243 and 6mm are capable of and have on more than one occasion shot five shot groups of 1/2" or better.  The best any of my rifles have ever done is a 5/16" five shot group.  All my rifles are sporter weight guns and the CDL is the only Rem 700 I have ever owned.  My other rifles are two 788's a 22-250 and 6mm, a pair of Ruger 77 MKII's in 243 and 6mm and a Churchill 243.
Good Shooting,
George

couple years ago I got a Win 100, .308 form my brother.
Never really liked it from the get-go but used it for 2 deer seasons.  I gave it back. Main reason the dam(n)
thing was heavy, for me anyway.  Plus I`m not a fan of the .308. Personal choice.  Those 2 things in
combination were the reasons it`s back in his gun safe.
It`s the only rifle I`ve owned that I really dis-liked!

I know part of the question was as......".just can`t sell" but  that thing had to go.

I have a great Rem. 600 in 308. It has a custom made Richards micro fit stock and the nicest trigger I have ever touched. The gun is just plane nice. It also shoots a clover leaf at 100 yrds. Every time I touch it I fall in love. The problem is that I also have a BLACK Rem. 700 ADL in .270 that has been my money gun for quite a few years. When that gun barks, deer die out to 400 yrds. I just can't leave it home and take the 308. It's like cheating on my wife, It's a fun thought but just wouldn't be right and I don't think i could live with myself.
