Planning to reload this summer need a shopping list. 30-30
« on: February 22, 2008, 01:31:19 PM »
hi all i am brand new to the reloading scene.
i have a single shot 30-30 and see me wanting to shoot more then i can afford.. lol

i am planning on getting a lee loader classic for the 30-30 so i can keep it simple and do enough to keep me happy.

i know everyone will say buy a book first... i plan to..lol  but i am going to be buying this stuff for the next few months . primers this month , bullets next , powder the following month and so on....  so i can keep it slow and cheap..  :)    i probably won't reload  my first cartridge till late may or early June area.

i have a 30-30 hand-rifle and a 30-30 Winchester 94 top eject

my questions are for 30-30 reloaders ..for my first time what types of these should i buy, i have no preference yet. i shoot 150 gr. win. and Remington factory rounds for now.. i like the 150 gr.

1. bullets
2. primers
3. powder

IF YOU HAVE  ANYTHING YOU WANT TO LET GO : BULLETS , BRASS , SHELL BLOCK HOLDERS , EX EX PLEASE CHECK MY TOPIC IN CLASSIFIEDS FORUM... IT ALSO LIST WHAT I HAVE PURCHASED THUS FAR

THANKS..

AND THANKS FOR THE RESPONSES I NEED ALL INFO I CAN GET..

I'm not laughing at you I'm laughing with you,
                             Your just not laughing.......

Ever notice the deer we get is always smaller
                              than the deer we saw..??.lol

HS

The 30/30 is one of the easiest to load for , most will shoot just about anything , since you will be loading for both the 94 and the Handi , for now stick with round or flat nose bullets .

The Speer 150s are a good choice to start , given a choice for powder and primers it would be IMR4895 and CCI standard large rifle primers . both do very well in my rifles .

Also take a look at the topics at the top of this forum as to starting loading and the useful links . you will have more ???s so just ask away as you need to .

smurf that is why i wish bullet makers would sell an assortment box of bullets say 10 of each so we could find out what works in our guns. I know they make more money the way it is now but i think they would have more loyal customers. Pm me and i will send you some bullets i have for you to try i have some 125 ballistic tips and some others.

First thing when you can work it into the budget, I'd get a Lee auto prime.  It's handy and easy to use and a lot simpler than the Lee Loader set up for priming.  It cost @$10.00.  After that, when funds permit, I'd get a middle price balance beam scale.
Check Ebay for a book or two. Even if they are out of date by a issue or two, they will still give you the fundamentals of reloading and, to tell the truth, there probably isn't too much new to be added for the 30-30.
Welcome to our world.
