1894c availability??

How often does Marlin manufacture the 1894c in .357 magnum?

I have one on order from my local gunstore. The guy who runs the store told me that none are available right now.

How log should I expect to wait?

I seriously doubt Marlin is out of 1894C. It's more like the supplier is out of stock . It should normally take about 4 weeks to get from Marlin to the supplier and shipped to your gun shop and then to you.

My dealer was able to get mine immediately last year, but I have from many that 1894C can be hard to find sometimes. Good luck.

I was told by a local gun shop guy that Marlin only makes a certain amount of a particular model each year and when they are out you will wait until the production resumes. Unless you find a gun shop that has some left overs in stock. I am not sure how true this is, but the guy is "usually" reliable. An example of this is my brother buying an 1894 in 44 last night at a local gun show.

     Geez, just go to a couple of large gunshows.  You should be able to find one or two. They ain't made of gold!  :-)

     It is MUCH harder to find an old straight-gripped Marlin in .35 Remington with a 20 inch barrel.

Dirty Tiger:   don't know where you are, but I  passed on one at a Big Five in Twin Falls Idaho yesterday...  It was the cheaper model hardwood stock blue steel 20" carbine.. bought another 44 mag instead..   price was $399...   Hope this helps..   Les

Are the Marlins that you find in big sporting good chain stores different then the Marlin rifles displayed on the website?

Well, here in Montana it can be hard to find someone willing to let go of the 357.  I've had one ordered since the end of November and still am waiting to hear it's in.  The old one I have is waiting for his new baby brother to show the ropes.

I ended up getting one from Big 5.

It does not have a checkered stock, it has a cowboy style stock with a satin finish.

This is the first Marlin I've purchased new and the forward lever action seems a little tight and stiff.

My !894 .44 and my 336 were used with much smoother lever throws.

Do new Marlin smooth up over time?

Should I oil it up and cycle the lever a few billion times to smooth it out?

Yes, they will loosen up as you use them. Some people say not to oil them when their new so they can work in sooner. I have always cleaned and oiled them out of the box then just used them as I normally would.

I am also in the market for a good leather buttcuff shellholder. Something sturdy....cowboy action style.

Google isn't giving me any good leads.

Can anyone here recommend one?
