Savage MKIIFV heavy Barrel
« on: February 22, 2008, 07:44:26 PM »
I have a Marlin 917V & I have been thinking about getting a Savage MKIIFV I was curious if the Heavy barrel on the Savage is comparable to the size of the heavy barrel on the Marlin.

Thanks. I saw a picture of a pre accutrigger MKIIFV & the barrel on that thing looked huge & some of the newer ones didnt seem to be that large.I dunno maybe its the angle the picture was taken at that made the barrel look so gianormus. :D

Do you have a MKIIFV,& if so do you like it?

Thanks for your input.

I have a Savage MKII in .17M2. It isn't the bull barrel model though. I didn't even know at the time that they made a bull barrel for it until I had to go to another gun shop to buy the ammo and they had one. I found out after I got it sighted in that I didn't even need the bull barrel. At fifty yards it will put three shots in a cluster the size of a nickel with Hornady ammo. It doesn't seem to like the CCI's all that much though. I am going to get some Remington's next and see what it will do with them.

A few years back I bought a Savage MK II FVT to use in my club's indoor league. First 2 sighting shots at 50 ft. went into one 22 cal hole. Got the sights adjusted to center and that rifle proved to be more accurate than many expensive rifles on the line. I bet that there are at least a dozen MK II's in the league now and all are fine shooters. The AccuTrigger is great and the only negative points are that sometimes the extractor fails to extract a fired case and the Savage stock makes this rifle very muzzle heavy. Most of the shooters fill the hollow stock with lead shot to bring the balance more to the center.

Savage has been very good at sending replacement parts at no charge.
