770 bolt action has way to much play in the bolt and receiver area. Bolt can cock in slide and remove metal from light weight metal insert. Remington refused to repair the insert with a new insert and claimed nothing was wrong. Re-blued the receiver scoring and sent it back. Unable to reproduce problem, wouldn't use ammo in clip. Unfortunately for those of us who own marlin products we are now stuck with their inept customer care. Hopefully the Remington engineers will be the ones losing their jobs and not the competent engineers from the other firms. That is the last Remington branded rifle I will buy that is not a pump. H&R service actually calls you if they have questions involving a warranty repair. They better start working on their service if they want the money for the quality they produce now. Maybe they should bring back the 788 that puts the 700's to shame.

You talk about the 770 and it's problems but at the end, bad mouth the 700 as if it's the same model and quality...

Regardless of how Remmys Customer Service treated you and the problem, don't dare put the 770 in the same league as a 700. Did you even do research before you bought a 770? Did you think it would be comprable to a 700? Granted, the 710's/770's I've shot were damn good shooters and performed flawlessly, they don't come close to a 700.

Stay away from Remington, I'll be buying enough models this year to cover what you don't

You got what you paid for,now you wanna badmouth the entire lineup because you bought the cheapest rifle they offer and it doesn't meet your standards,buy a 700bdl cheapass.You have made it completely obvious you have no knowledge of the current Remmy rifles,there is nothing they have or do make that will beat with the accuracy of the modern 700 line.You sound like a guy that bought a Geo prism and wants everyone to believe all GM products are crap because thats what he bought.

The bolt on my 710 is cheap crap. I knew that when I bought it. I can still hit a pop can at 300 yards. I didn't buy it for a flawless gun. I bought it cause I can use the stock to make scrapes in bushes and not worry about how pretty it is. You can't expect a company to make the lowest gun on the bargain counter work like the top dog.

LOL foggy,my hunting pardner packs a 710 in 300 wm and the damn thing shoots,very well,I cant stand the looks of it but I wouldn't have a problem taking it on a hunt...if I HAD to.

The 710 really was an awful feeling rifle. I worked in a gun shop part-time when the 710 came out, and I can't imagine why anyone would buy a 710 when they can get a Savage or a Stevens for about the same price. The 710 might have shot well, but working the bolt on them was about like hearing fingernails on a chalkboard.

I don't know what big green were thinking on that one. Trying to grab some of Savage's business I suppose..... I didn't expect the 710 to stick around long and it didn't, it changed to the 770. I don't know what exactly they changed about it, as I don't work with them anymore, but I couldn't spot the difference.

I have 2 700 classics one in 35Whelen the other 257Roberts that covers all I'll be shooting at. I also have a Savage 340 in 223Rem. I know 2 things about it it's not a Remington 700, but it shoots well. Don't buy the S10 Blazer and expect the Tahoe. Like the 710 and the 700 they are worlds apart and both will get the job done.

Now let me go see if I can get NONYA back on his meds.

Same here my friend. Well caffeine is a stimulant is it not? I drink coffee all day and night but fondling my firearms is a better stimulant than the Folgers

My wife's cousin has a 710 that he has deer hunted with since they first came out.
He loves it.

Well i have a old cheap ADL in 270 ,not the most pretty gun in the world but it will shoot and never had a bit of trouble with it ,may just get a nice CDL one of these days.

I'll have to upgrade too one of these days... The only thing is, I don't feel bad taking out the 710 and beating the crap out of it. I have taken it on some wild rides, and it still keeps shooting straight.

I own a model 710 in .270 caliber. I have owned it for three years. I love it. I have never had problem. Here are my observations about it and the Model 770:
1) The main difference is the stock. The 710 stock was ugly and people complained they did not like the feel of the fore-end. The Model 770 Stock, in my opinion is still ugly but it feels better. I know this because I've also shouldered the M770. I still like my 710 stock, after a while the 'ugliness' sort of grew on me.
2) A lot of M710 and M770 owners claim the rifles are super accurate. They are probably correct. The barrels have 'button' rifling instead of being hammer forged. I have heard that button rifling tends to achieve superior accuracy. I must admit -- I was far better shooter in my youth - now I am an average shooter. Superior groups are something that I no longer achieve with any rifle.
3) Many people on the web have complained that the bolt was sluggish when they worked the action in the gun store. They are all correct. Mine was too. Then I took it home and oiled it. What a world of difference ! It has been as smooth as silk every since.
4) Some complain they dislike the feel of how the bolt works. I can understand this. Most bolt actions cock the firing pin upon closing the bolt.[The Model 710 and 770 cock the firing pin when you open the bolt ! This feels different to some long time gun owners and it bothers them. It doesn't bother me at all.
5) It is a lot easier to remove the firing pin assembly from the 710 - 770 than a Model 700. This is my opinion.
6) I love the detachable magazine feature. It is usually found only on more expensive models.
Overall, I like both models a lot and will buy two more in the future for my sons who are in the ARMY and Marine Corps.
