Old traps-underestimated a little

well as you maybe have read below i had some old traps that i thought didnt have too much rust but upon tearing a few more out, there is a good deal of rust on some as well as some pitting.  So what is the trick, what is the best way to get alot of the rust off.  So far i have put a coil spring and a 110 body gripper in hot water with dish detergent, that took off some of the smaller looser stuff but doesnt quite get enough.  on these to i also ran a rough sandpaper over the lightly, so still rusty just smoother.  but i dont want to have to do it to all of them if unneccessary.  Will sticking with the pressure wash work the best?. then dip or dye them?

also dip vs. dye?  If you dye do you have to wax? is any one better, is dipping difficult to do?
what is the purpose?  These traps seem to work great with nothing on them

 Dyeing and dipping keeps  traps from rusting more.Dipping is not difficult.When I dyed traps,I also waxed.Wax keeps the dye on the trap and also lubricates the traps moving parts.
 Try this for rust removal,get a jug of vinegar(it is an acid)take a trap and place in the vinegar.Keep a close eye on it,it may take afew days--but it will remove rust--after rust is gone--rinse well and dry--surface rust will return but thats ok.You may also try a trap in a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water.See how things work ,before doing all your traps.

Give excessively rusted trap a good scrubbing with a wire brush before doing what bogmaster suggested. Ace

Did I read it right?  You wax all your traps....even the body grip type?


If so, how do you handle them after....are they not extremely hard too handle(slippery)?

 No way ,no how--do I wax body grippers.
 I dip my grippers in speed dip.

I found out that putting old traps in a bucket with barley and covering it the barley and traps with water helped to remove the rust.Check them often.
