Name your call

I call for clay birds with "pull !" But not everybody does.
I've heard the following recently. What's your call sound like?

A grunt

Aaah!

Puuuulll (by an very old man who sounded like it was calling for the bird with his dying breath)

A very convincing dog-like bark (by another old man who had to shoot while sitting in a lawn chair because he can't stand long. Heck of a good shot that fellow! And he hit the birds just barely after they cleared the house.)

This may inspire me to develop a new call of my own. Perhaps something like...
A rooster crow
A piercing scream
Learning to pass gas very loudly on demand
A duck call
And my favorite possibility, the Rebel Yell

PULL IT in a loud voice. If ya want good pulls ya gotta be sure the half deaf rascal with the puller in hand hears ya.

I shot with some that were loud enough to set off the mic two fields down.

Here's some I've had to shoot next to.

HEEEEEY!

BIIIIRD!

YOOOOO!

HUUUP!

Never could figure out why it was so hard just to say   PULL  ???

In skeet shooting the original CORRECT calls was Mark and Bird depending on whether you were calling for high or low house targets.

mine is usually "dammitpull" because i missed the last bird.

I generally use "pull"  but i've been told I sound like a drill sargeant at basic training.

I just don't want any comunication glitches between me and the guy trowing!!



also, judging by the dates on most posts, i'm assuming no one minds me replying to old posts in here!

I had one kid press the button before I could get to the "u" and the "ll". Another one had to think about it for 5 seconds before it registered in his brain.

I mostly shoot with voice activated traps, and a fairly loud "Pull" works best for me.

If you have a puller, and if he is also keeping score, you have to slow things down a bit so he has time to write down the score.   I've done the pulling a couple of times when our microphones weren't working as they should.  It's a boring job, and its easy for your mind to start thinking of something else and miss a call.  Also, you can be so intent on not missing a call, you end up anticipating the shooter and sending the bird out early.  Then there are the guys who whisper pull and expect the bird to come out.  I don't mind keeping score, but I'd rather be a shooter than a puller.

Ditto to that. I'd also rather be a shooter than a loader. At our gun club, the trap has to be loaded manually from within the trap house but the trap is an automatic machine. So you have literally seconds to pick up the clay and then put it on the trap before it whips it out. So the first time I went to do this, many years ago, I sat down where the other guy had sat and started the machine. As the arm of the trap came to lock into place the little tab on the end that locks into the machine ended up going into my knee because of how it was positioned and how I was sitting. I ended up hobbling on that leg for the rest of the day and now there's a hefty scar on that knee as a reminder to pay the *** attention when in the trap house loading!
