Here's one for some of you old timer's. I us to snare fox with a snare an old trapper showed me with no lock on it it was like three loops inside of them self to form a locking slip knot. I was wondering if anyone has seen this dun or remembers how to tie it. I know it would hole fox & yote's the trick was small cable (1/16?) and enough rope to hang them self.
If it caught is cooked.

I used to use  that type of snare tie lock but dont recommend it . WIth all the cheap good locks out there now days that work smoothly stay with a lock you can buy. Slim Pederson used to use a tie like lock  also but  even he recommends not to use such and stay with a reg snare lock.

Just to add a bit to RdFx's comments, the reasons for not using knots / loops in place of locks centers around release / noncapture of non-target animals...the knot-loop does not allow for Break Away Devices.  I suppose beaver under ice wouldn't present a problem but most land snaring for canids, cats and coon will benefit with the addition of a BAD.

Thanks for the info. I don't use them know that I found cam locks. The only non-target animals I have to worry about are moose and a stepping log takes care of that.

If the Bogmaster is out there I was wondering if you have a catalog or web page with a list of items and prices. I'm looking for some beaver locks that are suppose to be wide so they don't dig in as bad and if you have used them what you think of them.

  Thanks Rob
