cable guard Question
« on: February 27, 2008, 04:49:28 PM »
the cable guard on my bow has alot of the finish missing and slight rust color to it.  Could i do any damage by taking it off, sanding it smooth and repainting it? just looks a little ugly, im trying to clean things up a little as the bow is getting new cable, new string, new sight new arrows. The rest of the bow looks great - the cable guard.

I dont see how it could hurt.  Should make the bow have a smoother draw without the rust.  I would recommend picking up a new cable slide or rollers depending on what kind of bow you have too.  As for painting that is the part I am not sure on,  seems to me it would take a special paint that would resist wear but also be smooth as silk.  I am no paint expert maybe some one else can comment on that for  you.  One other possibility might be to contact the company that made the bow about a replacement, one from one of their newer bows might still fit if they do not have the same kind as yours.  You might even ask them about paint or what they put on theirs.

I'd try a good cleaning and polishing followed with paste automotive wax.

Joker, are you talking about the round cable rod?.,if so,just buy another one. They don't cost much and you'll be a lot happier. If you do decide to buy a new one get one that has a dog leg,so that you can adjust the strings for clearance issues if any.pan.

Panman, has a great idea.  I did not even know they made replacements--are they a universal size?
