How many do you own?
« on: February 28, 2008, 11:57:57 AM »
Just wondered for those of you that have more than one frame. What vintage? What do you like about the early series vs later series? Which barrels. Do you have multiple grips and forends or just one set per frame. Please post pics. Let's see some eye candy.

My first frame bought in '88 is a '79 vintage and the one I bought a couple of years ago is from '80.  Neither has been converted to easy-open and unless my grip strength begins to fade with age I don't see the need.  I'm also ok with the original wood, even on the relatively heavy kicking 44 mag and 357 Herrett.  I have an original foreend to fit my octagon barrels and one to fit my bull barrels.  Also, a (I believe) Herrett foreend for my 14 inch barrels.  I don't particularly like the pachmeyer grips but I'm setting one frame up for my cousin who is a lefty and the Pachy is the only ambidextrous grip I have.

I have three, I had a few more but due to an unfortunate home burglary I was left with fewer than I paid for.

have or have had

one five digit from the early seventies

three in the 150,000 series

two in the 195,000 series

one G2 and one more coming soon

at the end of the day i prefer function to form so the G2 is my first choice.

a whole bunch of barrels ranging from an original 22 lr. octagon I got for $35 to a custom job from MGM that cost me over $440.

I have more than my wife can keep track of.

 ;D ;D ;D

I was with a lady for over 34 years that I didn't have to hide purchases from.    But I doubt she would have been able to keep track of mine either. LOL

Currently have 20 Classic Contender frames of easy open vintage.    But since 1968 I have also owned something like 22-23 other Classic Contender frames of older vintage and 6 Encore frames.   Out of the well over 200 factory and custom barrels I've owned, still have a bunch of custom and a few factory barrels.   Prices ran from fair at the time bought on the factory barrels to some customs that were pushing $700 real hard.   As for the furniture, I do still have a few factory grips/forends I don't use.   Instead I have a bunch of Pachy sets, a Choate folding stock set, a composite stock set for the shotgun frame and several custom wood pistol and carbine sets.   I sold/traded completely out of the Encores years ago.

I dedicate frames to a barrel or small like group of barrels intended for the same use that are tuned to that frame.   For example, I have several frames that wear one barrel ever for specific use, several frames set up for long range bench shooting only with very, very light triggers that would be unsafe to carry, others set up for carry when out hunting with light but safe triggers, others I only shoot the handcannons on, etc.   Same with the furniture, most of it is dedicated to a frame and it's barrel(s).

A personal choice thing, but without question the easy open vintage of the Classic Contender frames have not only been my first choice since they came out, but they are the only acceptable choice for me now.   I'll never own a G2 for sure, and probably never another Encore frame either.   The EOCC frames have and will continue to do anything I'll ever want to do with a TC, and then some.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

I have 2 frames of the older style ,one I had converted to the easy open style, not a huge difference over the original set up to me.
I have a few barrels 222,7 mm tcu,223,357 10 inch,222,7/30 waters,30/30,357 herrett,30 herrett,41 mag.44 mag,22 LR,222,22 hornet 14 inchers,30/30,222,22 hornet,7mm tcu 21 inchers.

All are fun to shoot and more accurate than I am,the 7 mm tcu and 357 Herrett are a bit harsh with certain loads.I use the 222 10 inch for my "convert a pell" conversion.I have 1/2 inch groups at 50 feet with this set up.Saves me a road trip to the range with little noise too.I have found that a 22 cal pellet with a primer in a regular case works as well as the adapters they sell for $20.00 for 4 cases.Lots of fun from home when neighbors are at work. (I dought it is legal in city limits) I cast most of my own bullets except 22 cal,and group at best 2" at 100 yards with each caliber (before shoulder surgery) now I am gettting around 4" groups,at age 50 maybe its the shoulder, maybe the eyes who knows. Its all therapy anyway. Love the simplisity of the contender.

How many do I own?  3 easy-open frames, 3 G2 frames and 4 Encore frames.  As far as furniture for them, I have the original grips/forends for each plus 3 sets of Packys for the easy-open frames and custom wood grips & forends for all.  Barrels, I have 14 for the Contender/G2 and 10 for the Encore with more to be ordered this year.

Just have 2 frames.  One that I use for silly shooting that I switch barrels (22lr to 22H) to use the same 19 oz trigger for both matches.

The other is in 21" carbine 7mm TCU config.

I have traded a lot of pistol barrels for others over the last 15 years. I finally decided to just keep the ones that I use and not ones that will just sit in the safe. My very first purchase was a .44 magnum in the hunter package. I still have that one and continue to hunt with it to this day. I also have a 15" 357 maximum barrel that I also use for deer hunting.

I also have have a stainless frame that I use for my two carbine barrels. One barrel in .223 and the other barrel in .17hmr.

:'( I've had to give up cheap women and imported beers just to try and support this habit.Weaning myself off slowly one barrel at a time. Down to 8 barrels and holding. It's left me with the shakes and without moral support or a stiff drink I might have to relapse once in awhile. My drinking and shooting buddy Harold said that when i'm fially able to admit that i'm a TC addict i'll  be on the road to recovery. Heck, what does he know anyway, he's just as bad. Dave
Do you speak German? Well I don't speak Spanish so maybe you'd better learn English.
