I'm a happy camper
« on: February 28, 2008, 12:00:26 PM »
Just got off the phone with Reeder Custom Guns , my 22 Hornet Handi to 224GNR will be test fired in the morning and ship out to me friday , that means that i should have it in my hot little hands by wed of next week .  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

I have 150 rounds of ammo loaded ready to shoot with 35 , 40 , 55 gr. V-max , 53 gr. Sierra and 50 gr. Speer SPs . Using Varget , IMR 4227 and BLC-2 .

Also picked up a BSA Sweet 22 in 2-7x32 to try on it .

Now if i can just get the weather to behave i should have a few pics + range report by next weekend .

Good for you Stimpy, what diameter bullets are you using? Are they all the same diameter or are you trying a couple to see which shoot best? Have you or the gunsmith slugged the barrel?....<><....:)

Andy

The 2nd thing i did was slug the barrel to make sure it would work with .224 bullets ,  that way i can buy the same for my 218 Bee , 223 Rem. , 22-250 and now this one .

The down side was losing 25% of the new 357 Max cases due to split necks while forming the brass , the up side is i can trim them down to make 38 Specials .

The first thing i did was clean all the gunk out of the barrel .  ::)

Glad to here that. I finally got my rechamber back in 225 Winchester last week. Sounds like both these bbl's have seen enough truck time and need some bench time .Hope to finally shoot mine sat. Good luck. Kurt

I am sure you are going to like it. I am jealous; I think you have a winner. I am certainly guessing here, but I think you will find the 50 - 55 grain bullets work best with it. My 222 Rem shot lights out with 50 and 52 grain bullets and BL C2 powder and Rem 7 1/2 primers. It really liked the Hornady 50 SPSX and Speer 52 grain HP bullets pushed at moderate speeds some where in the 2900 fps range. Of course it was a 1 - 14" twist barrel. Just curious, did you do any annealing on the 357 Max cases either before or after forming?

I understand the weather part.  I have been waiting for nearly a month to take the new .44 and .357 barrels to  the range.  I have loaded several different loads for each and have had time to  order new scopes for each and if things work out it looks like I might be able to get to try   them out this Saturday.  That is if the wife doesn't find something else for me to do.  I am getting a real case of cabin fever.  If I can get out out for a couple of hours this Sat. and our black powder club has a trade session on Sun, well I just might make it.
