44 mag plain base bullet
« on: February 29, 2008, 05:40:03 AM »
I have a 5 1/2" Blackhawk in 44 mag.  What's your recommendation for the best balance of weight/recoil/velocity for general shooting and short range work on deer sized game for this particular gun in a plain base bullet?  I also have a Super Redhawk if I want to go heavy and/or faster with checks so the max's are not important.

You are asking for my favorite type of load.
Use the 280 gr WFN at 1200 fps and you will rarely have to track a deer or bear or elk.  They just lay down where they are hit if the bullet goes through the vitals.
