I am looking into both trucks on the used market in the late 90's. :? :? Hoping to get some pros and cons about both of them. So far the jeep seems to be a better truck but more expensive. Any opinions would be appreciated!

I have never owned either .....but my brother is in the car business. They all refer to the ford as the exploder. My wife was interested in one a while back.....she ended up with a suzuki grand vitara.

I had three of them and would buy one again. They go anywhere, good miliage, great in snow.
I used mine to skid logs, pull other out of ditches and as a hunting rig. They do have there problems at times, what vehicles don't.

If you can afford to have you truck sit idle for weeks waiting for parts if something breaks, then by all means, consider the Chrysler.

I could be wrong but I believe the Explorer is unibody and doesn't have a full frame. I don't like this for towing. My wife had a '95 Grand Cherokee and the A/C went out as they ALL did due to a poor design. We were reimbursed for the parts and labor. I didn't have a problem getting parts in a few days. I didn't have any other problems with it other than the O2 sensor going out. Dave

I've heard of several complaints with the front rotors warping on the 99 Grand Cherokees. I'm not sure what the cause was, but definitely research the 99-00 Grand Cherokees before buying one. It may only be an issue with the first year or two of the new body style.

I don't know about the older Grand Cherokees, but the older Ford Explorers are great. I have over 130,000 on mine. It is my work truck that pulls a trailer daily and my hunting truck in the hunting season. I don't trust the tree huggers and the thieves with my 2002 Dodge Ram to leave it out while I am hunting. I would be upset if someone trashed my Ford, but if they trashed my new Dodge I would be unstoppable.

Try to narrow it down to a couple of different year models in both and then drive them around some. See witch one handles better and if you like the way it drives. Both makes have their problems. I can tell you to stay away from the very early 90's jeeps. The cooling systems are junk and the brakes lack some especially when towing. But I do have an 89 with 169 k on it and its still going strong .
Which ever one you buy, the first time something goes wrong you will pitch a fit and swear you should have bought the OTHER one
