rcbs 162 grain SWC .357
« on: February 29, 2008, 04:29:18 PM »
I have an RCBS 162 Gr. SWC .357 cal mold.  this is a gas check type of mold, and the only data I can find for it is in an RCBS manual, and then only in the .38 S&W, and I don't mean the .38 S&W Special.  I want to use this bullet in my new .357 mag new model Vaquero.  Any one have any tried and true loads for this bullet?  I normally use 158 gr. data reduced by 15%.

I have the same mould!
I've shot bullets (mostly straight wheel-weights) from this mould with and without gas checks.
They shoot very well in my Ruger New Model BH and in my Marlin M-94C 357.
I've shot them in 357 Magnum and 38 Special.

I use mostly WW-296 powder and with this bullet, gas checked or not, I load with 14.5 grains.
This data is from a Winchester booklet and it's for the 158 gr Lead SWC.

Thanks for the data.  I am retired USAF also, though I also put a hitch in the Marines.  I liked the Marines but with the then current Commander-in-Chief, Mr Carter,    I thought it was pointless and got real tired of running 30 miles a week, minimum.  Still have ankle trouble from that!
