one other clarification...i have never said you must get a bang/flop.   nor did i ever imply it.  all i said was that the deer i have shot with my 270 and nosler 150 grain ballistic tips@2900 fps dropped like they had been hit between the eyes with lightning.   thats all i ever said.

Hi Myron:  What is your load and barrel length?

i use a ruger 77/m2 with a 22 inch barrel with 150 grain nosler ballistic tips, imr 7828 powder and cci large rifle magnum primers.   i wont post my powder charge,  but it is within noslers recommended levels.   velocity was between 2880 and 2918 fps out of 5 shots, 60 degree weather and about 10 yards from the muzzle.

What you said was ....

"every time i have put it in the chest cavity.   and believe me, i have killed my share of creatures. "
"no one is bragging,  just stating my experiences."
"all neck shots i have seen shuts them off like a switch has been thrown"
"only one deer out of all of them i have shot with a 270 was able to cover any ground after the shot, and it was totally my fault as i hit it a little back, the bullet went through where the diaphram is, essentially a forward gut shot.   but it was in a world of hurt and didnt go very far at all.
all the others dropped dead instantly"
"i think some of you need to come watch me shoot a few deer.  you cant get deader faster than what i have been seeing"

and now you narrow it down to....
"one other clarification...i have never said you must get a bang/flop.   nor did i ever imply it.  all i said was that the deer i have shot with my 270 and nosler 150 grain ballistic tips@2900 fps dropped like they had been hit between the eyes with lightning.   thats all i ever said."

So first it was all the deer you shot with a 270 in the chest ,or was it the neck? And now its just the deer you have shot with a certain load out of the 270,keep narrowing down the circumstances of this 100% BF spree and I may be able to believe you.If my best hunting pardner told me a tale like yours I would tell him hes full of BS right to his face,I dont pull any punches, just tell people what I think,if more people were ike that there would be quite a few less BS artists around, nobody ever calls them out and they go on thinking everyone believes them.I have been called a liar here on GBO,I didnt call people evil or hardhearted over it either, grow up.

I'm almost speechless after reading some of this. I cannot fathom even 25% or 30% of someones shots on a deer with ANY caliber resulting in them NOT taking a step and dying right there on the spot. I have never heard of anyone even claiming 1/4 of their shots resulting in the ill fated term "bang flop".

But 95% or better? I say let people type what they want and let the readers decipher what's realistic and what is not. I know what I think and nothing anybody says or shows me is ever going to change my mind. If my Grandfather(whom I respect dearly) approached me and told me out of the 15 deer he shot, 8 of those fell without taking a step as if a freight train hit it, I'd laugh and call BS. If he said 14 of them reacted that way, I'd have him institutionalized without hesitation.

Did I just step in a pile of poo by responding? Uh ohhhhhhhhh  ;D

It's going to start all over again, the dreaded words "Ballistic Tip" have been uttered in Nonya's presence.  Last season I killed four deer using 3 different bullets. Two were Ballistic Tips, the 95 gr. 6MM version and the 150 gr. 7MM version. I also used the 30 caliber 165 gr. Sierra BTHP and the 7mm 140gr. Nosler Partition.  All dropped on the spot, the ones hit with the Partition and the 95 gr. Ballistic tip kicked around for a short period and were dead when I got there. The only dead broadside hit was with the 6MM, the other shots were variously angled thru the chest. Year before last I took three deer with a 358 Winchester and 200 gr. Remington RNCL's. Two that were hit thru the chest, one dropped and the other went down immediatly as it was running when hit. The third I hit too far back walked about 20 feet and laid down. This deer took a finisher.  For several years before these deer I consistantly hit them in the neck in front of the shoulder and bang flops were definitly the norm for this hit. The previous lease manager hit both his deer with 180 grain S&B SPCE bullets from his 30-06 and both these deer ran about 30 yards.  He placed his bullets a bit lower than I do, more to the middle of the chest and his bullets opened a bit slower than mine.

the thing is nonya, you can nit pick all you want,  but nothing i have said is contradictive of anything else i have said.
a  bit more clarifiaction for those of you who need it....

all the deer i have shot in the neck, or seen shot in the neck, died instantly, REGARDLESS OF CALIBER, GAUGE, OR BULLET USED.

and as far as loads i use in my 270, i only use one. with 150 grain BALLISTIC TIPS. :o

and yes,  one deer that was hit a little far back DID actually run after it was shot a little far back, but not very far.

do i need to make it even simpler for anyone now?  comprende?

if yours was anything like mine,  at 72 (when he died) he would still put his foot in your @$$ if you got out of line.
my grandpa killed more deer and other things than i ever will.  most with a 22 mag.   in his last couple of years out,  my dad handed him some 308's loaded with ballistic tips.   even grandpa was a convert.   he had never seen effects like that,  and refered to them as "ballistic missles".   he didnt care much for the meat damage, though, as he was quite frugal.  eat up to the hole nothing,  he would have eaten the hole is he could have!
but hey, at least you didnt call me a liar.

so if i shot ten deer in front of you, and had ten drop stone cold dead instantly,  right in front of you, you would still doubt it?  then you would say i rigged it somehow.    you must be a liberal; because they are the only people i have met that WILL NOT let facts, proof, or evidence cloud the issue.

partsman, go out and shoot a few deer with  your 270 and nosler ballistic tips.  then come back here and tell me what YOU saw,  versus what you see some people saying.

as far you sniper, yuk it up all you want.   doesnt bother me a bit.

again,  the offer is open,  but it is far easier to sit back and run you mouths than it is to take me up on it.     says more about you than it does about me.   now i am yuk, yuk yuking it up.    ;D

The problem, of course, is that there's nothing in it for any of us.  We're all very confident that what you say is, uh, not likely to be true.  But why would any of us give up our time to watch it happen?  Lets play hypothetical.  Lets say I give up good time next fall, days when I could otherwise be bow hunting some of Kansas's tremendous deer.  Lets say you shoot a deer, not in the CNS, and it runs a little ways and falls over.  You'll immediately say, "Oh my god that's the first time that's ever happened to me... blah blah blah" and what will  have been accomplished?  Now say it does BF (because most of us agree that sometimes that does happen.  Well I'm going to assume that I just witnessed one of those 10% of the times a deer BFs.  What will that have proven?

I'm going to stay here, hunt my own deer, and continue to believe that 100% BFs operate only in magazine hunter land.

I like ballistic tips just fine.
They are considered THE premium bullet around here.
With a well placed shot they give very quick kills.

For the record I will be trying 130g Accubonds in my 270 first.

Oh, I could invite you??!?  What a great deal for me!  Let me see, if I claim that every time I rifle hunt I shoot down an alien spacecraft.  Then when someone questions me, I can try and get a free hunting trip out of it?  Where do I sign up?  I've got this great anti-alien round! 100% BF on spacecraft!

I killed a buck with my .270 once. He was running away from me, I hit in in the rear hind quarter and spun him around, I fired again and this time I grazed him across the briskit (spelling?) with the bullet. The deer dropped like a bag of potatoes upon the second shot. This deer was within 30 yards of me when I fired at it, (For some reason, buck fever no doubt, I aimed at him through the scope instead of the iron sights, clearly visible through see through mounts. I surmised that was the reason for all the mis aiming I did, and he was running full bore away from me.
When I field dressed the deer, the hind quarter was a total loss, and I recovered the bullet, a Nosler Ballistic tip, which was a reload behind 59 grains of IMR-4350.

The chest cavity, which had not been penetrated, was a bloody mess inside. A bullet had not entered the chest cavity , nor did it draw blood on that wound. It was simply a "cut" across the skin enough to slice the skin. Again, it drew no blood. There were no entry wounds in to the chest. The heart and lungs were soup.

I still do not understand how a bullet could do that much damage without actually entering the chest.  Is there that much compression shock from the bullet going by at 2900- 3000fps?
