New Mod 48 Yugo Trigger
« on: March 01, 2008, 11:54:49 AM »
I have a mod 48 Yugo, 8mm.  It is in great shape except for the stock.  When I got it it was so dirty that the trigger wouldn't even strike.  So I cleaned and soaked, but still not good.  So I bought a Bold trigger from Boyd Gunstocks $29.  Took it to my gunsmith and it is sweet.  Literature says that it is set for 2lb. but feels like less.  My gunsmith was impressed.  It is crisp and light.
I can't stand a bad trigger on a gun.  I think that a good trigger on a military rifle that you want to shoot is the best investment you can make.  Cuz I like to shoot them, not just look at them.   I now have a great truck gun that shoots great.
And man that 8mm hits like Thor's hammer.  But you need to reload because all of the 8mm commercial I have found is loaded so weak that it has the ballistics of a 3030.  Loaded correctly 8mm is awesome.

prairiedog555:  Ah yes Grasshopper, you have found the secret of the Mauser - a good trigger.

The ammo you seek is readily available from Sellier and Bellot, PRVI, and Wolf, I believe.  The Sellier and Bellot uses a 196 gn cutted edge bullet soft ppoint that clocks at 2500+'/sec.  Their mil-spec ball is new production, clean and of excellent quality.  It is also inexpensive.  This is European ammunition made for European firearms to original European specs and it some good stuff.

Checkk one of our sponsors, Mid-South Supply for amo availability.  HTH.  Mikey.

I second Mikey's suggestion on the ammo. You will be very pleased with the S&B 196 gr. SPCE round. I've shot two deer with a Yugo and this round and it makes very short work of them. This round would be perfect for elk.

I'm betting you'll like the Bold trigger a lot.  A Pennsylvania cousin has an older Interarms Mark V 243 that had a terrible trigger.  I foolishly offered to bring it to my NY gunsmith and have the trigger smoothed and lightened as a Christmas present.  He took a look and said it was a military style trigger and there was nothing he could safely do.  So he sold me a Bold and installed it and it worked wonder's for my cousin's shooting ability and the rifle's accuracy.  It did turn into a pretty nice Christmas present (a bit more than the $25 I was accustomed to paying for a trigger job!).  -WSJones

Is the Bold trigger a "drop in" on the M48 or does a smith have to install it?

I'm not so sure it's a 'drop-in'.  I have a couple on some of my rifles and they are great.  A definite improvement over the old Mauser military trigger, but there may be adjustments or fitting necessary.  They are adjustable for pull and travel.  Unless you have replaced triggers or trigger assemblies before I would lean toward having a gunsmith install it.  HTH.  Mikey.

Drop in?  Dunno.  It was certainly easy to take the trigger group out and replace it after I got my cousin's rifle back.  I don't know how much fitting or whatever had to be done though.
