Where are the primers!!!
« on: March 01, 2008, 01:26:06 PM »
Are you reloaders having trouble finding primers!  I can't find my Federal Match 210m printers anywhere.  Not even the big mail order houses have it.  Also, it's getting hard to find ANY primers.  My source told me there is a 1 YEAR back long on orders.

Don't even get me started on the cost !!!  Last year I purchased 3,000 primers at $18.75 per 1,000 and these were Federal Match Gold primers.  Today I just bought another 3,000 primers that were standard CCI AT $27.50 PER 1,000!!!!!!!!

call uncle sam. he is buying up as much as he can. unfortunately his munitions factories cant put out enough ammunition to cover all his needs. (maybe he shouldnt have closed 3 out of the 4 ammunition plants he had). i have had the same problems you have had in locating certain types of primers, and prices have skyrocketed. i figure it will be tis way through at least next year if we are lucky, could be a whole lot longer.

It's not just Primers that are hard to get around here.  Some Brass is just as hard to find and expensive when it is found.  Some loaded ammo in calibers used by the Worlds Military is also on a 12 month back-order. Just about every Military organization around the World is ramping up ammo and arms production in anticipation of a Global Conflict, and right now the U.S. Military gets their orders filled before civilians.

New Brass prices have gone up, Lead is up, and so is Copper.  The gunshop I frequent is rationing primers on his own.  He won't sell more than 1,000 at a time to any one customer, he won't sell a case.  So far, this system has made sure that anyone who wants primers gets them.  But he is bound to run out sooner or later.

Reloading shoud still be cheaper than factory ammo, but I wouldn't expect to pay low prices on components when the price of factory ammo is so high.  This is a whole new world now, it costs more to live on it, and will get alot more expensive from here on in.

There is no doubt in my mind that $27.50 per 1,000 will be a bargain price in time to come.

Ever Body thought I was a little crazy when, last year,I bought enough brass, primers and powder to last me for the next ten years.
Glad I did.

I found Federal 210 Primers in my local area today at $3.30/100 (which is 1/10th the new price of 1,000 without adding a premium for spliting them up), and I have been told that the scarcity of Federal primers is a temporary condition and are likely to return shortly.  Remington 9½, 9½M, and Federal 215's were readily available, as were Winchester WLR and WLRM and CCI.   Most Pistol Primers and 209's were sitting there too.

I was also told that when Fed 210's are available again, the retail price will likely be higher than it is now.

And gasoline will be $8/gallon in two or three years.
