Sight Removal
« on: March 01, 2008, 06:09:28 PM »
I have a 700 BDL 270 that I want to remove the iron sights.  Question is not so much the removal but what to plug the holes with.  Seems as if the screws from the sights would be too long.  Do they make screws just for this purpose?  Also do the holes for the sights go all the way through or is there a bottom to stop the screw from entering the barrel.

            Thanks

You can get filler screws that are made for just what you want.  A good gun shop should have them.  I'm sure Brownells carries them.  Maybe Midway too.

The plug screws, from the scope mount locations, should fit - if you still have them.

Thank You for the replies.  Just one other thing.  Do the holes for the sights go all the way through or is there a bottom?

They are bottomed.  And sometimes they are not cleaned up all the way to the bottom so your filler screw won't bottom out but will stick up.  Then you need to take it to a smith to have it finished so it will fit (no big deal) or shorten the screw (very tedious) or leave it open until you can get it to a smith.
