BUSHNELL TROPHY 3X9X40 P/N 73-3940 ON ULTRA SLUG DEL 12?
« on: March 01, 2008, 09:42:50 PM »
I HAVE READ MIXED REVIEWS ABOUT THIS SCOPE.   I GOT A NEW BUSHNELL TROPHY 3X9X40. P/N 73-3940
REGULAR PLEX AND GLOSS FINISH SCOPE ON MY NEW USHD 12 GA.

HOW DO THEY HOLD UP?   WAS IT WORTH $100?

ANYONE GOT ONE ON USHD 12?

HOW ACCURATE ARE THEY?

SOME PEOPLE SAID THAT THE POI CHANGES SOME WHEN YOU SWITCH POWERS.   IF SO I'M GONNA BE QUITE P'ED BECAUSE I BOUGHT IT 40 MILE FROM MY CABINET.

Mike I'm not a big fan of that much power on a slug gun .I've done it and with the same scope you have but what I always ended up doing was leaving it on 4 or 5 power. Mostly what I and others have been using with more confidence is either like a fixed 4 or 6 power or what mine have on them 2-7x32's but I still seem to stay mostly on the 4 setting. Just seems like that's fine for 100 or fine for 30 yrds that Bushnell will take the beating of the 12ga though. I really don't know if the point of aim thing is from changing the power or the inconsistency of factory loads in slugs probably a combination of the 2. I will find out for sure when I get my new ULSH this yr as I am gonna be loading my own slugs and that will take out the inconsistency theory. Kurt

I would be more concerned about the Trophy's minimal 3.4" of eye relief on the USHD, I think 4" would serve you much better, the Banner 1½-4½x32 would be a better choice, IMO and save ya some money.

Mike,

I have a Bushnell Trophy 1.75-4x32 on my 20ga USH, been just fine for 5 years now. I have no experience with the 3-9 Trophy though. A 2-7 power would be about perfect IMO for the longer ranges these new slugs are capable of shooting.
