Biscuit vanes?
« on: March 01, 2008, 10:40:29 AM »
For those of you using the whisker biscuit, which vanes seem to get along best? The biscuit is eating my AAEs alive. Also which adhesive for the vane you are using for carbon arrows?

Thanks!

I gotta ask.  Are your nocks rotated so you have no contact with the vertical/black bottom of the rest? Could the contact be with your cables and not the rest?  I (and several of my friends) use the biscut and have no problems.

Put a drop of glue at the front tip of the vane...it'll help a LOT.

I shoot blazers and i've never had a fletching come loose.  I don't know what adhesive is on there.

Thanks for the replies, i am using AAEs- i think they are flex Fletch? they are separating from the shaft at the tip. I will try the glue drop. I have been eyeballing those blazers. They claim excellent broadhead flight.

blazers are my first choice for shooting through a biscuit, but with the right glue, 5 inch feathers on a tight right helical is my favorite and most accurate to shoot.

If they are aae they are not Flex Fletch.

AAE vanes and bisquits don't play well together

If you will try a Ultra-rest which is a drop away, not only will it solve the fletching problem, it eliminates all arrow contact upon release.  I could not believe the the improved performance of my bow.  About $60 installed and help with sight at my pro shop.

Does it capture the arrow at all times so it can never fall off the rest while hunting?

I love my biscuit! ;D

Stick with your biscuit Tad.Blazers are the way to go.like has been stated,a drop of glue will solve a LOT of problems.Wipe your shafts with 91% alcohol, and use Goat Tuff.pan.

Why no contact with the black whiskers?  Are they different somehow?  I've always had a fletch out to the side, to keep my form correct, which makes another barely hit the black part.

The black colored fibers are a different composite(a lot stiffer to support the weight of the arrow).  You need to rotate your nocks so your 'trigger' vane is straight up.  If not, the extra friction on the vanes will wrinkle them over the period of 50-80 shots.

Best choice of vanes for the Whisker Biscuit:

#1: Blazer 2" vanes
#2: Razor 2" feathers

Vanes not to use:

#1: QuikSpin of any length
#2: Any vane with a high profile

These are from my testing and in no way reflect what you might possibly get for results.  Would also like to inform you of a new type capture rest from BowTech called the Hostage, works very much like the W.Biscuit....just doesn't contact the vanes.

Listn to Panman.

I used to have a terrible time with fletching being destroyed.  My biskit was square to the arrow using the naked eye.   I put a square on it and saw it was out just a bit.  Fixed that and have not had a single fletching problem since.

Update to my post:

I have put 2" blazers on my arrows, and cannot believe the improvement in performance! ALL my arrows are flying like darts now. They ALL group together. I dug out a bunch of "fliers" i was saving and they all go within an inch of each other now. WHERE HAVE I BEEN! :o

Looks like blazers and the biscuit are a winning combo!

Also, for what its worth i am shooting 29" beman ics 340 hunters, carbon tech white tail 60/85 hunters and cabelas stalker extreme 65/80s with 125gr fixed blade muzzys. They all seem to group together fine for hunting. I think the bemans and the cabelas are the same exact shaft.

Thanks for all the advice!

Now i have some bobber lights coming to make my own lighted nocks. anybody doing that yet? I love the Lumenocks, but at $10 apiece i will try to make my own. There is a cool video on u-tube showing how to do it!
