Encore .300 Win mag & recoil factor

Good day folks. I have a 26" heavy bbl in .300WM for my Encore. I shoot a 165gr Sierra GK, 71.5grs IMR 4350 loads out of it.
I am finding that with this load the recoil is causing me to flinch  , I never had this problem until I got the .300 WM bbl.
My question is, "Is there a big difference in recoil between a 165gr and a 150gr bullet?"  I ask this because I may step down to this wt of bullet in something like a Nosler Partition.

I don't think you'll notice much of a difference in recoil.  Recoil is directly proportional to bullet mass and velocity.  The bullet mass would be less but the velocity greater so in the end recoil would probably be about the same.

You might consider a muzzle brake to tame things down.  Last I knew, T/C would install one on one of their barrels at a very reasonable price.  Some don't like brakes because of the noise but, in my opinion, you should be wearing hearing protection even when hunting with the likes of a 300 Win. Mag.  Also, I don't think the Encore stock is really of the best design to dissipate recoil (the Pro Hunter stock is a little better) well.  I've gotten a scope bite more than once with mine (even in 30/06).

I shoot the 180 grain in my 300 win mag. I have the T/C muzzletamer and the limbsaver on the stock. The recoil is manageable.

Where do I get a Muzzle Tamer?

I have shot .450 Marlin from my Encore.  I could not shoot it without the limbsaver on the stock.  They make a limbsaver that screws directly on, requires no modification and takes five minutes to install.

You can calculate for one that you know then compare the result to one that you are thinking about shooting. 

29 pounds of recoil is a high but tolerable number.  It is all purely subjective of course.    My little encore with the .450 was generating over 45 pounds of recoil!  I am sure your 300 mag is in that range.

I actually have a Limbsaver recoil pad installed on my Encore, yes it works GREAT but I've also come to the conclusion that the eye relief on my scope (Bushnell Elite 3200) is too short. I keep getting scope "kisses" (not bites) which in turn is causing me to flinch, so my 1st thought was lighter recoil, but now I'm thinking of trying a Nikon scope, which one, I don't know yet? I do have the Nikon Omega on my 209x50 barrel and a Prostaff on my .308 barrel,

Try a Leupold scope I have a VX II 3X9X40 on my Pro Hunter 300 mag with the Flex Tec stock. Lots of eye relief never comes close to eye. My Pro Hunter kicks less than I thought it would. Don't know how much the Flex Tec stock helps and if 28" barrel helps but kicks less than my old Winchester Model 70.
