WISH LIST
« on: March 03, 2008, 07:42:16 AM »
Okay lets hear about the guns you've been ogling and drooling over.  I'll start with the "few" ;) that have my attention

- R-15 VTR Predator Rifle or Predator Carbine CS (Collapsible Stock) in 204 - for a predator calling rig
- 700 XCR Tactical Long Range in 308 - this one speaks for itself
- 700 VTR in 223 is I get the XCR and in 308 if I don't get the XCR - for varminting and range work
- 700 SPS Varmint in 243 - for long range varminting
- 700 SPS/SPS Stainless in 17RF or 204 - for a predator calling rig if I don't get the R-15 VTR
- 700 CDL in 223, 243, or 25-06 - because I love the looks and feel of this rifle and I need to replace my CDL 30-06 (if I sell it)
- 700 LSS Anniversary in 257 Weatherby - because I have an infatuation with all .257 calibers and because I let a 700 LSS in 7mm get away from me a few years ago and have regretted it ever since.
- 870 TAC 2, 12ga. with Knoxx Spec Ops stock
- 597 Magnum in 17HMR or 22 Mag -  Maybe, not sure about this one because I can't find any good reviews

Well that's my "short"  ;D list.  I'll probably end up with 3 of them but not completely sure which 3.  So lets hear what you guys are looking at purchasing or just wishing you could have.

#2. 870 Tactical Magnum 12 gauge  DONE
#3. 870 Super Mag ShurShot 12 gauge  DONE
#4. R-15 VTR .223 18" barrel with collapsible stock -End of April-
#5. 700 VTR .308/replace original stock with LTR H-S Police stock -Stimulus check- *If .308 isn't available, wait until it is, no other caliber will do*

Those are definites, some other models like the CDL SF Limited, 105 Cti 12 gauge or a SPS-V in .22-250 may slip thru the cracks  :o

*To those of you who have played with a .204, how are they and what are the pros compared to the .223? Guess it's time to check some ballistics tables and compare....

How readily available is ammo for it?

I had a Handi rifle in the 204. The 204 is a screamer at 4225 FPS. It sure does the job on Groundhogs But when you get to 350 400 yards it loses a lot of energy. Dale

sniper,  if you check out federals website  http://federalcartridge.com/ballistics/Ammo_Search.aspx?act=choose&firearm=1&s1=1  you can compare the ballistics and wind drift of different calibers and bullets.  The little 204 does really well with the 39gr. Sierra Blitzking out to about 500 yards and is on par with a 55gr. 243 and just a little behind a 168gr. 308 in the wind drift department.  After looking at the ballistics I'm also very intrigued by this little cartridge and would love to have it in an AR platform.

A wish list Remington? Would not mind having one of the older polished blue 700 VLS .223s again. Had one and traded it when the .308 bug bit me! Now all my rifles are .223s!

The wish list rifles I have acquired:

1- 700LTR - one that has exceeded my expectations on how accurate a factory rifle can be.
2- 700 SPS - this was to be a custom build. I added a Jewel trigger and HS stock and this rifle shoots extremely well. So the custom job is on hold for now! May just buy an actual custom action and have that built later.

I feel real fortunate with the above pair , the LTR being a 1 in 9" twist 20" while the SPS is a 1 in 12" twist 26" barrel , both great shooters!

Well, since its just a wish and won't have to be economically feasible for Remington.
I would like to see a Remington 700 BDL in 6.5x55 with a 24" barrel in 1 in 8" twist.  I've never got to shoot the 1994 classic but I suspect it didn't shoot as well as the Swedish Mausers.  Possibly due to the barrel length or twist.  Yeah, I know, all I have to do is call the custom shop and send them a blank check.
