the new Lyman Mustang muzzleloader
« on: March 03, 2008, 08:34:27 AM »
         Hello everyone;
                             Hopefully this coming Saturday I will be the proud owner of one of the new mustang 50 cal. muzzleloaders by Lyman. After a year of wanting to get my hands on one. I finally got the chance to hold one at one of our local gun shows. They are as sharp looking as they are in the pictures! If the gun shoots as good as it looks and handles, Iwill be a happy camper. Anybody else out there who already has one? Hows it shoot? Have you hunted with it? :P

I've had one a little over a year.  It's my only in-line.  I like it a lot, but it took a lot of experimentation to find a load it really liked.  I found it would shoot almost anything into three or four inch groups at 100 yards - conicals, sabots, heavy charges, light charges, ect. didn't make any difference.  I always got usable "hunting" groups.  But really tight target groups have been hard to find.   I have a few loads that will do two inches or less at 100.  Here's my best shooting load, and it's deadly on deer.  Note that it's 80 grains weight of powder, which is equal to about 103 grains volume.

No I haven't Lane.  Got some sitting on the shelf, just can't seem to get myself to load it up.  :-\  Maybe I need a little more encouragement (or courage).  Any updates?

Had one of the 45cal Disc Elites loaded with 150g of new powder and a 200g SST, since 30Dec07  :o

Had my son go out and shoot it off on 18Feb08

Fired On Target perfectly ;D.  Gun was kept in a case, in a cold garage the entire time.  8)
