Am I crazy or...
« on: July 09, 2003, 11:48:09 AM »
Looking to get a .22 for plinking and tree rats. Am kind of sold on a 10" for the portability in the woods. Now the crazy part... Has anyone out there put a supressor on a .22 T/C? Like to plink at the lake, but the neighbors get a little upset, almost as much as when I run my nitro R/C boat. Am I on the right track with lenght and caliber. Any input would be helpful. Thanks

You might consider .22 Shorts, .22 CBs, or the Aguila Subsonics rather than suppressing it.  That might still not get the noise level down to where you want, but it might, and it could save you a couple of hundred bucks.

It might save you a trip to club fed to shoot the subsonic or powderless ammo, unless you get a suppressed barrel that has all the proper federal paper work with it. Andy

check out the SSK website under tactical weapons. nice little suppressed contender with folding stock. nothing but money, lots of paperwork and a clean record from stoping you. the cheaper route is the aguilla colibra's, no gun powder. quiet and work well.norm

i have a 15 inch custom barrel chambered for 223.   i use a chamber adapter and shoot vermin with all kinds of low report 22 ammo,  cci 22 cb shorts being the quietest  so far.   i have tried remington sub sonics, aguila sniber sub sonics, cci cb longs and cci cb shorts.
to those who use the aguila ammo: was it the same sniper sub sonics you tried?   mine were not all that quite.   or was it a differnet ammo they make?

aguila makes some that are just primer and bullet no powder it makes more noise hitting phone book in hallway of our house than actually going off i shoot them through a 10'' bull my son has a blast with them we live in city limits so cant shoot outside this is the answer for everyday practice.

I also thought that a suppressd .22 would be neat. The only problem is that most .22 LR rounds are supersonic. I went to a local class 3 manufacturer and tried out a couple of suppressed .22s. With regular ammo, they weren't all that quiet. Definately more quiet than a regular rifle, but would still draw attention. With CB longs, they were very quiet. The bullet hitting the target was louder than the shot. I finally decided that it just wasn't worth the trouble. The full auto, suppressed 10-22 he had was really neat. Now a suppressed .44 Mag running a 250-300gr cast at about 1000fps would be a whole 'nother ball game :-D >>>>>>>Bug.

:(  unfair most states do not allow the use of supressors for hunting!
