Creek Fishing
« on: March 03, 2008, 10:49:19 AM »
Next weekend I will going home for spring break and finally get to fish. Along the side of our farm, near Fayettville, Tn, is a creek that I have fished out of for years. I know that there are sunfish, rock bass, small and largemouth bass(Only caught one largemouth), and catfish. I have mostly fished with live bait. The creek in some spots is almost six feet deep, most spots are about 2-3 ft. After the drought came through last summer there are deeper spots that used to be shallow and vise-versa. I am looking for some rigs or bait that have been successful for yall when fishing in creeks. Any info would be helpful.

When I was a kid I kept it simple. I was fishing small creeks near Dallas, Tx. I would run to walmart and buy some dehydrated crickets or worms and us a float. Used a split shot weight about 2" above the bait. Due to variable depths the creeks were the most challenging venue I have ever fished. Oh, also float the rig with the current, I do remember doing that and it being effective. Good luck........

I've not done any creek fishing in a long time but the same baits work on creeks as do on ponds, lakes or rivers. Worms are always a good choice and most everything will bit them. Grass hoppers, crickets, roaches, may flies in season, wasp larva, weed worms, catalpa worms all work fine. If bass is your primary interest minnows might be your best choice.

Most of the time when I fish I don't care what I catch as long as I am catching something. If I catch larger fish then that is even better but I just enjoy catching period.
