I just drilled a hole thru the fore arm then counter sunk the inside for the nut to set in. I epoxied the nut in and it works great. I use the stud for a Harris bipod.

I have a mixed bag of some with a sling stud mounted as jhalcott, and some with a sling stud that replaces one of the forearm mounting screws.  Both ways seem to shoot the same (just fine thank you), but the regular stud is a little easier because you just have to remove and remount the forearm as normal.  The other way takes a little extra care to get the stud lined up correctly.  Not a big deal for sure.

I was looking at the pile of fore arms I have. One of them is a Pachmeyer with the hanger bar. That was made with a sling stud that also held the bar on. I don't know if those are still made!
