The information I've been seeing shows a distinction between "Hevi-Shot Duck" and "Hevi-Shot Goose." The Hevi-Shot Goose is the familiar 12.0 g/cc density long associated with Hevi-Shot. The packages of Hevi-Shot Goose stipulate "Heavier than Lead." The Hevi-Shot Duck is said by some to be 9.9 g/cc density. This is less dense than lead which is about 11.0 g/cc. The packages of Hevi-Shot Duck stipulate "Heavier than Steel." I do not think that is an accident. I'm certainly not going to pay $23/box of 10 for 2 3/4" #6 Hevi-Shot Duck or $25/box of 10 for 3" #4 Hevi-Shot Duck IF it is 9.9 g/cc density. I've seen quite a bit of corroboration of this lower density for Hevi-Shot Duck, but am still seeking rock solid corroboration. If I can get this rock solid corroboration I'm going to be talking to a number of people who continue to broadcast the 12.0 g/cc density specification for Hevi-Shot Duck and ask them to report the revised figures -- American Hunter, Cabela's web site, and others. I'll also try to share the information with fellow hunter consumers. I like to know what I'm buying and that I'm getting what I'm paying for.
