Encore oversized hinge pin?
« on: March 05, 2008, 10:03:57 AM »
I'm having trouble with the groups out of my 25-06 Encore. On most all of my 5 shot groups I will have a flier or two about 2.5"-3.5" away from the rest of the group. Besides the fliers this gun does around .75" with a number of handloads. I'm starting to think slop in the hinge pin might be a culprit. Do the oversized pins actualy help and if so which brand? Any help is appreciated. Brett

Its one of the subjects that divides TC users pretty much right down the middle. Personally I would attempt every concievable accuracy trick I could find first that applies to break action guns.

minimizing foreend contact to the barrel (I like hanger bars..not everyone does)
front rest position
different loads
check optics for loose or poor fit

To start with. Then if all else fails (so far I've never gotten to this point) maybe an oversize pin.

I also experienced inconsistent groups with my Encore, I tried everything skb2706 listed and probably spent $450 on different reloads. In the end, it was the 1x over-sized hinge pin that made the biggest difference, not even a trace of slop in the hinge now. The over-sized pin will likely need some extra, yet mild persuasion to get it in. I installed mine by leaving the factory pin in the hing assembly, then used the new 1x pin to drive it out, the 1x required light tapping.

I got mine from...The Guy whom we can't name. Just search Google for "Oversized Hinge Pins for TC Encores".

I used the 3x pin just to make sure everything remained tight. However, I did have to use a 12lb lump hammer to get it in. Things sure are tight now. I'm gonna shoot it as soon as I figure out why the action won't open.

I'll let you guys know how the accuracy is.
