Imperial Brand quality?
« on: March 07, 2008, 07:40:34 AM »
???   Does the name Imperial mean poor quality steel?  Acquired a knife that I can't get the rough edges out.    I then noted it was made by ' Imperial '.    I can get a garden hoe from Wal-Mart that will hold a better edge than what this blade is able to show me thus far.

Update:  3/8/08 ~ 10:00a.m.      Decided to browse the internet and found that Imperial has merged with Schrade/OldTimer.   According to them, their knives and swords are quality products .    I'll work on the blade some more, but I can tell the center of the blade is losing steel.

You're a bit behind the times looks like, amigo.  Imperial merged with Schrade a LONG tme ago.  After a bit, the logo just went back to Schrade.  Schrade, of course, went bankrupt a while ago.  The Schrade TRADEMARK has  been purchased, but the company no longer exists.  Every Imperial knife I've ever seen, I have one of their Campcraft knives sitting on my  deskat the moment, has a really soft carbon steel blade. If you're having problems, you may be using 'way to much pressure; try easing off a bit.  My Campcraft will take a sharp edge, but it won't hold it for spit.

:D ;) Hey Joel:    You're right about being behind the times.   When I was a lot younger, I was always buying Schrade pocket knives down at the general store.    I was pretty rough on them.    I spent at least an hour, earlier today honing on that Imperial, and came to the conclusion I needed to lighten up on the pressure, and it finally took an edge.   I doubt if I'll ever use it.
