Need a source for  decimal HSS chucking reamers.  Looking for  .457, .459. .461, .463, .465, .467, .469, and .471.

Anybody got a good source?

Try McMaster-Carr; looks like they have most of your list.  Enter "chucking reamers" in the search box, click the chucking reamers image that appears, and then click the "select inch size" drop down and look through the list.

They aren't going to be cheap; looks like about $28 each.

 You might search Ebay for "adjustable" or "expanding" reamers near the sizes you need. Sometimes they come up dirt cheap.

 I've used the ones with the screw in the end quite a bit. I think the ones I have are made by Cleveland twist drill Co.(?) and the name they use is "Peerless" IIRC.

 I'm sure Enco or Harbor Freight would stock the Chinese equivalent.

I am looking for a bit more precision and repeatability than offered by an adjustable reamer.  The project I have in mind is more production than job work.

Enco didn't have them.  Travers use to , but I couldn't find them on their website, except in carbide.  MacMasters Carrs price was just about what I expected to pay.

I have been watching Ebay for some time now with no luck or what appears to be regrinds and questionalble dimensions.  Still watching however.

I have bought some tooling from Harbor Freight past, but never really felt I got a good deal for my money. Cheap yes, reliable no.

I have lots of stuff but I'm not that up on precise tool terminology.  Will have to look up chucking reamer, Wonder if it is a reamer with a straight shank as opposed to Morse etc.

cannonmn -  you got it - it fits into a 3 jaw chuck.

DD - Travers no longer gives the option of specifying the diameter, hence you'd be stuck with fractional sizes.
McM-C of course has them.

Another option:  get a handful of 1/2" reamers at the best price you can then have them reground.

Haven't looked at MSC yet or ENCO.

If you have a lathe all that is needed is a tool post grinder, DD might be able to pick one up on ebay at a reasonable price, that also gives the advantage of making other reamers the size needed in the future.

Enco and MSC only listed carbide.   I probably will go  with McMasters-Carr. 

By time I spent the money to buy a toolpost grinder and 1/2 in.  reamers, then taught myself how to regrind reamers,  I could have spent less money to buy the reamer I need and got the project  done made a better profit in less time.  How ever the idea is not with out merit for some other projects I have in mind.

I've bought several HSS reamers in the ~.500 range from D&J machinery off ebay. They were used, but looked almost new and still sharp when I got them. Paid about $7 each for them plus shipping.

Anywhere there is light manufacturing there will be a wide variety of machine shops that pop up in support of those industries.  I know of several such that I used to deal with when I was a tooling engineer.  The tool & die guys at work know of some others.  It is through the relationships that one has built with these folks that you get the good prices that the volume of your company has generated.

Tool post grinder and an indexing head makes sense too, for me, as I have a number of other related projects.
