How do Identify a SB2 from a SB1
« on: March 09, 2008, 11:55:32 AM »
Hello All,

How do I tell the difference between an SB1 and SB2 receiver?  I found a H&R 22 Magnum (HX prefix)with Laminated stock at the local gun store for $190.  I like the laminated wood and was wondering if I could add  22 Hornet and 308 barrels to this receiver.

Thanks,

You can't fire a rimfire barrel on a centerfire frame unless the rimfire barrel has an offset bore like on the combos, the firing pin is in the wrong location, but there are pics of SB1 and SB2 frames in the FAQs, there are definite differences in physical appearance as well as material and strength.

WILD_WEASEL,

Sounds like you have a Ultra Varmint 22 WMR (SS1-822), that is the rimfire frame. The Sportster uses the same SS1 frame in a matte finish. Like Tim said, SB1 and SB2 frames are different. Only rimfire barrels could be added to the SS1 frame.
