Dick's Sporting Goods comes to Oregon
« on: March 11, 2008, 10:29:47 AM »
Heard a commerical on the radio today that Dick's is opening a store at Washington Square in Portland, the grand opening is on the 29th for any of you Webbies and SW Washington members. I keep reading about all the great Handi buys they have, hope they have em there too!! I checked their website, not listed yet, but Wiki does.

We're getting one here in Mississippi, too. It will be a while. They just got started on it. We have a fairly new Bass Pro. Now, if we could only get a Cabelas!

I've heard rumors that one either is open or will be opening up in my county but I have no clue where or when.

Never seen a Handi in the Dick's here in SC. They carry a lot of the Rossi .223 packages, but that's about it. They do carry quite a few shotguns and bolt actions. Have some pretty good sales leading up to hunting season. They are the best of the boxes around here. All the other "Sporting Goods" stores specialize in exercise equipment and running shoes.

Same thing at the one here north of Atlanta (Marietta)  I did just buy (today) 3 of their 24 gun safes though!  They're on sale plus I got another discount for getting 3!   ;D  Gettin' delivered Thursday.

Same for me in mid TN only rossi and then the assortment of shotguns and bolt actions. Prices seem to be HIGH except if it is on sale. I personally have not but too much from there unless I have a gift certificate and even then I feel bad due to the prices. Watch for the sales   ;)

we have one around here. Not much of a selection unless you want a Encore or a Stoger shotgun. prices are about average on what I've seen. costumer service leaves a lot to be desired here.

One thing... Dick's used to have 22lr's on sale at a good price. They would sell out in a day or two and let me pick what brand I wanted at the sale price.... I did that more than once

Dicks seem to be a bit pricey here and now that they opened a Sportsman's warehouse just up the road I don't go in Dicks anymore.

Our Dick's in Dayton Ohio is actually in a rather big mall . Kind of brings back the good ol' days when about every store you went in sold guns. They have a ground floor entrance that they walk you out if you purchase firearms.

Have a new Dicks in Ft. Worth, nothing to rite home about, 4-5 Rossis, lots of shot guns, bolts, lots
of black guns and a world of levers, this is Texas so i guess they figure to sell lots of levers (cowboys
all need levers). I was not impressed, i do play golf so that was nice.  ;D We do have Cabelas and
2 thats right 2 bass pro shops, so Dick will have to open early and stay late

Rex ... I have seen one of the BPS ... I thought that is pretty sweet that they put it on the lake .. I think Lake Fort or Fork whatever it is called... but you could buy a boat and start fishing right then LOL .. AWSOME!!!! now Cabelas needs to put a ranch next to them so you can buy a gun and shoot something. I love the cabelas man that is a hunters store.... Anyways I hope all you new to Dicks will have better luck then us....

Right across the road noth of the Cabelas is a pasture with buffalo and longhorns.
The buffalo and Longhorns belong to Ross Perot or his son so i guess all we can do is look,
and i am not sure they allow that. ::)

They sell only the lowest grade guns, they do not accept any returns you must deal with the manufacturer only, high prices on ammo, no reloading stuff..... no Handi stuff....

but.....

they do offer a "different" selection of hunting and fishing equipment......

The most positive part is that Dicks has created jobs for the high school kids.  Do not expect too much.

Ditto on the " don't expect too much". Dick's idea of sporting goods are designer biking shorts.

Well, it looks like Dick's will be a disappointment, sounds a lot like Big 5, although they at least have milsurps. Sportsman's Warehouse always has Handis in stock and they're right here in town! ;)

I don't think I'll be wasting any gas on a trip to Washington Square, I'll give em a call to see what they have instead!!

Thanks for the info,

Tim

Guys don't count Dicks out. Ours in Clarksville Indiana keep very few Handis on the shelf. If you take a minute and grab a clerk and ask , I think you would like the prices. I was shopping for the SB2 in the .44. They did not have it in stock. BUT they could order it for $202. I am an not very patient, found one at a local gun dealer. I spent $30. more than Dicks price. My only issue with them is the clerks do not hang around the counter. I will say Dicks gets a lot more of my money then the Bass Pro next door. I called bass Pro about the 44 handi and the guy said they dont and have not ever made it in a .44. Hmm wonder why I dont shop there.

Let me tell you guys about Dick's. We have 3 in my area and none of them hold a candle to Gander as far as firearms go. They are expensive and they seem to carry a lot of the low end models of mostly Remington's. Thirty some years ago, they started out as Sports Unlimited in my hometown and they were the place to buy guns. Now, if you want to buy golf clubs or sneakers they have them. Dick's selection of hunting gear seems to be limited, but one store out of three, is great for fishing gear. So I wouldn't get to excited about Dick's coming to your area. Most people here would rather drive 75 miles to BPS or 20 miles to GMTN to buy there hunting equipment.

OlGrizz:  If Dick's is not as good as Gander, then they really are not worth the gas to go visit.  Our Gander is pathetic.  Everything is overpriced, selection is spotty at best, reloading stuff is almost nothing but old stuff that doesn't sell ("but we'll special-order anything" -- at ridiculous prices), the teen-aged clerks are ignorant and snotty, and the "sale" prices are nothing to get excited about.  I go in there about once a month to look at the used-gun rack.  And they do have the best gunsmith in town (La Crosse, Wisconsin).  He's slow on big jobs, but you can trust his work on everyday tasks.

We have to drive 50 miles to get to the nearest reloading dealer with a good stock and fair prices, and you know what that means -- you lose your savings at the gas pump.  I guess I'll just decide on two or three powders that work for me, and order big containers from Midsouth.  The hazmat fee is less than a tank of gas for my ancient Escort wagon.  They're a sponsor here, too, and I can attest that their service is top-notch.  That's the only way I can see to save a little on reloading supplies.  Local retailers can't make enough profit from them to stock a good variety at reasonable prices.
"The said constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms." -- Samuel Adams
