Its a very accurate rifle in any caliber. I have had the opportunity to shoot many different calibers in this rife and all were very accurate.

I bought my son a .243 when he was 14 years old and he has taken my deer with it. Yep it looks a little cheapie and is rough in finnish yet it relly performs well.

Many of my "Gun Nut " friends swear that it is one of the best buys out there if you want an accurate rifle for a very resonable price...Same goes for any Savage..

i have a 788 in 308 and have shot all but 1 of my deer with it. this year i took my custom mauser. i enjoy the 788 and will keep it as long as i can. i have seen a walnut stock with a cheekpeice on gunbroker for about 85.00. i am thinking about getting it for mine. they are one the most sought after actions to turn into a bench gun, i was told, because with the 9 rear locking lugs.
