Need new broadheads...

I had some 100 grain muzzy 4 blades and some unknown 100 grain 2 blades given to me, neither one seems to shoot very well for me, 15 yards im ok just shoots 5 inches lower than my field points, but beyond they are way off target.  Thrown about a foot left.  Would something smaller like the nitrons work better? i was looking at those, i also considered going with expandables like rocket broadheads.  Any suggestions?

Have you tried to tune the bow to the broadheads?  Some can still be finicky in the way they will shoot.  I recently started paper tuning with these:Satellite Match Points by satellite archery and they shoot dead on with every broadhead I own even the magnus 2 blade that I have had trouble with in the past.  They will be what I use this year on turkey and deer should be very hard hitting out of this setup.  At 20 yds after paper tuning with these I fired a shot with the broadhead and then the match point and they where right on top of each other had to get an arrow puller to even get them out.  After a few site adjustments, I tryed this at 30 yds same thing and again at 40 and they opened up to about an inch and a 1/2 apart but probably the shooter more than the two points.  If you think about the extra length of the broad head it spaces that 100grains out over an inch or inch and a half where your points are only a half inch long so when you shoot the arrow accually flexes differently with the two different tips causing poor consistancy.  The match points make the spine flex closer to the same giving you better accuracy.  Cabelas has them for about 12 bucks but I found them for 8 on another website but don't remember which one.

As far as expandables, I would have to recommend the spit fires.  I have used the 2 blade for years and they are tough and shoot with feild points.  I would tape the blades down on one and set up that way before the Match points came out and then practice with the feild points--only a couple of inches difference at 40 yrds.  They only make a 3 blade now which I have recommend for many people and they have been great too.  Have never had a failure to open nor have my freinds.  I am only using the magnus just cause want something new to try.

I will bet with a little tuning you can use what you have.

I agree once again on the tuning. I can broadhead tune my bow and get any broadhead to shoot with my field points. Out to 50 yards. Goto archerytalk.com and searh tuning and you will be in the library of archery help. You can shoot any broadhead you want if you fine tune every aspect of your bow.

I will try to tune, cant hurt, i was told it was all out of wack anyway so i can make it much worse.  The only other problem i have is my arrow points a little to the left and my broadheads shoot low left so that means i have to move the rest right but the browning trophy flight doesnt have the cupped area around the rest so my broadheads are already real real close to hitting the bow, actually if they arent tightened so i have two blades open flat and one pointing out, they scratch the bow.  So what do i do there, smaller broadheads or try my luck first  with tuning and tightening the way that they fit??   i dont really want a small cutting diameter than 1 inch i would probably try mechanicals first....Whats your input

Ok now we are seeing some of the problems.
1. try a new rest--would suggest one that is easy to adjust--I like Golden Key's rest--got a new one not to long back that is a Golden Key rest but Spott Hogg made it so maybe they were bought out?
2.  Going to a longer arrow--would most likely need a stiffer spine than what you have know if they are to be longer
3.  New broadheads as you suggested--However this will depend on what you are going to use them for and yes the mechanical would eliminate your problem of hitting the bow but it still may not be shooting as consistently as it would if it were tuned.

There are so many factors here.  A different arrow might allow you to tune with the rest you have and the broadheads you have but may take several trys to find the right one?  = $$$
New broadheads will fix the problem of hitting the bow but may result in a bad hunt due to either  poor performance out of an untuned bow or poor accuracy out of an untuned bow= frustration
A new rest for about what a dozen arrows would cost ( got mine for 70-80 bucks) would improve your bows performance by allowing you to tune it both in accuracy and energy, allow you to shot better giving you more confidence in you abilities and allows you to use the same arrows and broad heads you have now.

My advise would be to try and tune with what you have.  Move away from the bow despite it not making since to do it.  I have moved rest in the direction the book said over and over and over and the paper did not improve--then went back to where I started and moved it the opposite of what it said and they got better.  If your heads or vanes are hitting anything it will kill trying to tune--so move away and see what happens---do read up on tuning there are so many things that could be wrong.  Now if that does not work.  Get a new rest---and make life easy get a micro tune type rest that can be easily adjusted.  I hate telling people they need to get this or that so try what you have first and hopefully it will work.  But if not do what you need to to get it tuned.  Shooting an untuned bow is like shooting a rifle with a bent barrel--well sort of.

im understanding everything but when you say get a new rest, im not sure how that would help unless you miss understood what i had said in my ealier post.  It is not actually the rest that is the problem more of the bow it self.  See the part of the bow above the guys hand in the picture how it curves out to give more clearance for broadheads?   That is what i was addressing, mine doesnt have that. It is flatter maybe less than or about a half in in

Ok I see your point now.  Simple solution would be to turn your inserts.  If they were glued with epoxy it wont work.  If they were glued with hot melt it will work.  Nock each arrow and mark the top with a magic marker.  Then heat the  arrow at the tip where the insert is, do this with the broad heads in place so you know where to turn them to.

next easiest is the mechanical heads

last would be new longer arrows

if your bow is a two cam bow and the timing is off or any kinda of bow and the string has stretched then fix these things first and due a little tuning and you may no longer have a problem.
