1892 Rossi Trigger
« on: March 12, 2008, 08:37:23 AM »
My stainless 1892 Rossi in 45 colt/16" barrel has a really creepy trigger. I'm looking for opinions and options to deal with this. I would rather fix it myself to if I can and save the time and money associated with shipping it to a smith.

Does anybody know if the Steve Young DVD covers trigger jobs? I emailed him twice to buy one and got no reply.

Any input appreciated.

thanks, Jim

You might try calling him and just asking him over the phone,  I managed to get hold of him that way.

My quite old Rossi 92 has a flat trigger spring. I bent it to take some of the pressure out for a 2 1/2 # trigger.  That was too light for jack rabbit hunting with friends so I bent it back a bit for a 3 1/2 - 4 # pull.  The feel of the lighter trigger was good enough that I didn't mess with the sear or hammer notch.  I lubed the sear/hammer notch with a moly grease.  Some 'smiths say that's a bad practice but it works for me.

I have a Rossi 92 SRC in .357mag and I used the instructions here->

to clean it up and make an outstanding rifle.

Now it's one of my favorite rifles!

That's an excellent article. Thanks for the link. I've done just about everything in the article with the exception of the ejector.  I didn't know about the heavy spring in it.  Gotta do that soon.

I cut 4 1/2 coils from my ejector spring and it still seems too heavy.  Cutting it any further would make it too short so one of these days, I'll go out and look for a replacement spring that's wound from thinner wire and give that a try..
