Diameter of .38 caliber bullets.
« on: March 13, 2008, 06:12:14 AM »
Following a discussion on another forum, I miked the handgun bullets I have on hand. Remington Golden Sabers,  Speer jhps, Hornady swaged swchp, Berry's 125 gr. hp,  and a local caster's 158gr. swc bullets All miked .355-.3555, with a few nudging .356.  That's both jacketed and cast bullets.

Unless I am confused, that is the recommended diameter for 9mm, and does nothing good for accuracy in the .38 caliber, which should mike .357-358.

Hornady has agreed to replace their box of bullets.   Am I off base, or are manufacturers now selling undersized, 9mm bullets, passing them off for both 9mm and .38 projectiles?

Has anyone experienced the same problem?

have you checked your mic. jacked bullets should be .357 i size my cast to.358.   .355 is under size for 38/357. would be real unusual foe that many different brands to be under size at the same time.
never to much gun

Yes: Thanks for the suggestion. I was undone by an inaccurate caliper.

I checked  with  a micrometer, and all sizes were proper.

I just hate it when that happens!  I should have been suspicious when 4 manufacturers' bullets were all undersize by the very same amount.

Ah, well, live and learn.
