I had about an hour to kill after building turkey blinds yesterday. I found this match pair of sheds about 20 yards from each other. Each side was a base 5 with 1 non-typical point. Good mass, great length.
About 200 yards farther I found this guy. It has a broken brow or it would boast 10 score-able points. It has 8 typical points and 2 stickers. I looked until dark and couldn't find the mate. I'll probably try again Saturday. I love KS deer.

I know. And the sheds were all found around a pretty thick bedding area surrounded by Ag. I would expect both deer to be in the same area next fall. There is NO hunting or human pressure in the immediate area.

What round would you consider minimum for hunting sheds?
Anything that will hit the broad side of a barn?
Seriously nice antlers. It's amazing what you can find in the woods.

This far south with critters like mice, squirrels and such that eat them sheds don't last long. Since those critters are able to remain active all winter long they've pretty much eaten up the sheds by the time most folks up north begin looking for them.
I've run across a few but darn few and never that weren't at least partially eaten already. The most preserved I've found was a skull from a cowhorn spike I ran across once and brought home. They don't really last long in the southern woods.

GB is correct abt. them not lasting in the South, I have my best luck finding them along fence lines where they seem to fall off when the deer JUMP the fences the jaring of the horns when the deer hits the ground seems to hasten the shed falling. JIM

They don't last long in the north either if you have squirrels around. I saw a small buck 4 days ago that still hadn't dropped his antlers, and a few others 10 days ago with antlers. Haven't found any sheds yet this year.

Some of the guys around here claim that if you put out corn and hang a ladder over it the deer will knock their racks off while eating , some use their treestands . Anyone do this ?

Myronman, you need to get further north and you will find sheds. In Birchwood they just get hunted so hard. I used to hunt Red River and Wttenburg and never found one. Vilas county should be good and the western UP might be better. I find them in Price county once in a while and even found one in Washington county last year on public land so ya never know.
