7mm TCU out of rifle barrels
« on: March 13, 2008, 06:52:11 PM »
Anyone using this round in your rifle? I was wondering if you pick up any speed over the 14 inch contender barrel, I am considering this round for a 22 inch rifle, but all the info I've found so far has been out of 10 to 14 inch barrels. Thanks.

From a 22" barrel, you'll gain around 175 fps on average over a 14" barrel. Some loads may pick up around 200 fps, but that will be about it as the case is an efficient one and does fairly well in 14" tubes.

Nonetheless, a 7 TCU carbine makes a terrific 200 yard deer-dropper with the 120 grain Ballistic Tip or even the 140 grain version. Both will expand down to around 1650 fps or so.

Thanks, I like the way this thing looks on paper, And it will be a re-bore job that's why I said .22 I could have it cut back to 18" while the smith has it then it would be a little quicker handling, should make for a dandy little deer rifle here in eastern Kentucky.

You'll be pleasantly surprised at the increased velocity attainable in 22" barrel. Just finished working up several different loads in my MGM 1in11 twist barrel. 2675-2700 fps results w/ 120 nos BT and H322 powder[.5 gr under max load Nosler manual for 14" barrel] I've reloaded same fire formed[rem] brass 5 times w/ no excess press signs[case bases, stretch, prim pockets, primers, etc.] Accuracy is .5 MOA.  BOB
