.45 colt questions
« on: March 14, 2008, 05:37:49 PM »
I have a Vaquero in .45 colt. I want to reload for it but it has been forever since I loaded for .45. I have longshot and 2400 on my bench already. i have jacketed bullets from 250 to 300 grains. any good recipes you guys use that "always work"?

Is that one of the new model, small framed Vaqueros' or older model?

so how about some Longshot loads? I can't find .45 colt online with that powder but I use it in my .357...

I started with Unique and still use a bunch of it for general plinking. I have also used Bluedot along with 2400 and 296 for hunting.
I can't really say anything bad about any of these powders.
I use the CCI 300 primer with the Unique and CCI 350 with the others mainly because of the Sierra data.

Matt

Longshot would not be my first choice for this gun , most of the data puts the loads in the Ruger ( BH , SBH & RH ) , FA & TC levels as a Mag powder like H110 .

2400 , Titegroup or even Bullseye would better for what you have to work with , i shoot mostly cast in my 45 LCs over Unique and it does a wonderful job .

I'd go with the 2400.  You don't have to max it out and still push it with plenty of umph to impress your friends and neighbors at the range.
