I think somebody is trying to blow some smoke up our keesters, but you see for yourself. I guess the 2007 24" Open Range must not have sold like they had hoped, so they have put a new twist on it for 2008. I just can't figure out how a 3-1/2" 20 ga slug gun could be called recoiless. A 19" barrel minus the 3-1/2" chamber is only 15-1/2" of bore. Either this is something truly innovative, or is the biggest crock in slug gun marketing ever. Who is going to buy one and let us know. ;D

I'd like to see someone test it out! Can't figure how that wouldn't recoil you into next week.

When you shoot a high velocity cartridge in a rifle, the bullet is out of the barrel before recoil or muzzle flip happens. Slower cartridges, like a slug, are still in the the barrel when the barrel starts to flip; Making the barrel a little shorter, will have the bullet out before the muzzle flips, thus creating better accuracy. This is the way I understand it, but according to my wife; I'm always wrong!

Oh, its still going to kick, its just that the bullet will be out of the barrel before it happens, therefore less chance of throwing off your shot. I'm sure that cutting 5 inches off the barrel will lighten this gun quite a bit, and kick pretty stout.

Oh, I know it's going to kick, I just don't buy there is NO recoil while a bullet is moving down the tube. I posted this in my first post.

A 19" barrel minus the 3-1/2" chamber is only 15-1/2" of bore.

After thinking about it the bore would actually be 15" or less, I forgot about the forcing cone.

So now they build a 3-1/2" slug with I'm sure a big increase in recoil so we can shoot over 2000 fps, then we cut the effective bore down to 15" or less. So how can we make the 3-1/2" slug gun kick more, while slowing the bullet down? Oh yea, lets lop 5" off the end of the barrel.

Burntmuch has a 20ga USH that he cut the barrel down.  Maybe he can respond as to any difference in recoil with non-3 1/2" slugs before and after cutting the barrel.

I know I sure was surprised by the kick when I started shootin the 20ga slugs last yr after many yrs of shooting a 12. I was expecting a lot less recoil and was dissapointed but finally bought a good pad to lighten the load. Also when I cut one of my 12's down to 18" what was a good kick turned into a mule kick wallop can't see the 20 doing any different. You see the muzzle flash on that first video at 1:35!!! :o  Don't fire it too early in the pre-dawn at a deer or you'll be temporarily blinded by the flash!
