Is it an SB1 or SB2?
« on: March 15, 2008, 12:11:45 PM »
Is there any way to tell the difference by looking at an SB1, or SB2 reciever? I saw a NEF .410 shotgun at a local shop. The reciever was the "patterned" finish like the Buffalo Classics. The serial number was NL 200157, which is a 1997 model if I'm not mistaken. The barrel was stamped .410 Pardner. My guess is this is a SB1 reciever and has the same barrel that came out on it. How can I tell the difference between the SB1 and SB2 for sure?

JonD

Look up in the FAQs , there is a link or pic that shows the two and what to look for , but best is to give H&Ra call with the number to know for sure .

I checked out the FAQ's( I couldn't find it the first time I looked ;D) and the gun I saw is definitely an SB1 with the flame colored finish.

Thanks guys ;)

Here's another dead give away to the difference, the stock mating surface of the SB1 Topper frame on the left is solid, the SB2 frame is skeletonized.

Foggy,

That is not always the case. My daughters .410 SB1 Pardner NN (1999) serial# has the small diameter firing pin just like the rifles. We bought it new and it is definitely a SB1 casting.

Thanks for that pic Tim, I take it it will go into the FAQ's.

JonD,

The SB2's are investment castings, the SB1's are poured castings.

Busta,

Yes, I've been saying I was gonna add a pic of the rear of the frames for a while, this thread was a convenient reminder!!  :-[ ;D
