DK's yote cam[updated]3/22/08
« on: March 15, 2008, 04:13:25 PM »
i put out a dead calf for bait and hung my moultrie close by   ;D here are a few pics.
they haven't ate on it at all. i have heard they won't touch it as long as it's tied up in a tree ?
i had one out a week before on the ground and it was gone in a couple days. this one has been up over two weeks and nothing showed the first week. had rabbits, deer, turkey, buzzards, fox and yotes visit. i'm gonna cut it down soon to see what happens. i'll keep this updated to see what shows.  ;)

DK,

You shouldn't have told us they were game cam pics.  It would've made a great story:  "Photographer attacked by crazed buzzard . . ."  ;)

This is a worth while project for sure. Of special intrest (to myself) is those Dates & times that are recorded by the camera.
You have a small sampling (for right now) but I see that you captured that Fox & the Coyote within 54min of each other on the same date of 3/10
I would just about bet that this time frame falls within the Major or Minor feeding periods as said by the Solunar Table Data. If you are not familure with this, a current table can either be found on line or even printed out in an outdoor magazine. You have to add or subtract minuets based on where you live.

These Solunar tables really do seem to pay-off for myself when calling, to be able to backup their claims on the times with a dated picture would be interesting (IMO) for sure.

Your almost on track. While at the gun shop awhile back, Lance was telling me about a guy that had a bait pile 250 yrds. behind his house. He had a TV camera rigged to a motion detector and it also turned on the TV in his bed room so he could see what was there from his bed. If it was a coyote he would raise his bed room window, where he had already built a shooting bench, and shoot it, then go back to bed. I haven`t figured out yet whether this guy is the most dedicated coyote hunter I`ve ever heard of or just the laziest. He has to be one or the other. Oh yes, we shoots a .243 with a nite vision scope on it at nite so he never turns on a lite.

my intent when i put the trail cam out was mainly to get pics of the coyotes but you do bring up a very good point. i have never tried hunting during peak hunting times, but i did want to find out when they were visiting so i could lie in wait LOL ! there were some evening yote visits to the bait but the pics were not so good so i didn't post them. i'm checking it in the morning and will be dropping the bait down to the ground [if i don't puke ]. i will start listing times of visits of pics i don't post. i plan on keeping this going for awhile. it is getting interesting ! our season is over here but i can still kill them legally [yotes only] as long as i have written permission from the landowner[which i do] this will sure help pass the time until turkey season !

Good Luck to Ya...do you have a steady supply of dead calfs or hogs from the locals? if not, it seems that there is a fair supply of roadkill deer most anywhere now a day's.

Catfish,
Good story and I have to agree with you on that close line between Lazy or dedicated.
I do know of a guy who used a decent marine type of battery along with a 90watt DC to AC inverter (avaliblile most anywhere) and a cheap motion detector mounted on a pole with a 60watt red bulb in the socket that overlooked the bait. His vantage point was an out building and his alarm was when ever he would hear the Coyotes howling in his proximity which was his que to slip on out to that shed for a while.

This setup was mainly used as a control because the Coyotes would haze the cattle & hog lots along with the farm yard if left unchecked. I think that he was getting enough shooting in to teach the yotes to have some respect.

checked the bait today [3/17/08] and something had finally ate on it. i had planned to put it down on the ground but decided not to since it had been hit. BIG MISTAKE. when i got back home and checked the memory card [300 pics] found out someones damn dogs were what ate on it.
did get more yote pics though.

time of visit for one yote not posted was 6:30 am on 3/17/08 [i showed up an hour later,DAMN!]
also,i was 9 minutes late to catch the 'dogs' latest visit

the one yote looked to be shedding alot . and i'm positive the last pic has been here before LOL !
