Welcome, the easiest way is to go to
http://myhostedpics.com/
and register. Then upload your pictures there then use the BBcode to show your pictures here.

Are you the same kymm that had the questions on the 6 pounder armstrong breechloader? There should be plenty
of help in this forum, these folks around here are great

Glad to see you made it over here to this board. Great bunch of people here if you need some info looked for. Just post away or create one with the 6 pounder armstrong header. Were you at Fort Shenandoah in Winchester last fall or was it the other poster? Nice pic by the way

Yours is a great looking gun!  We have about a hundred questions, but the answer to one will suffice for now.  Is it rifled and if so, what form of rifling has it?  Welcome to the forums!
Leesecw has a very good suggestion there about creating a thread called, "The 6 pdr. Armstrong and How I made it", or words to that effect.

Regards,

Mike and Tracy

I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

Yup, I would start a new thread. Invite that other fellow that was looking for info here also. Does that piece have the same type of rifling as the 3 inch armstrong? Oops there I go again with questions. You'd be better of starting a thread along the lines of what seacoast artillery mentioned. I like the rare ones also!

the armstrong will be rifled in armstrong rifling as with te 12pdr!
it loads by cranking handle counter clockwise remove presure on t he breach which is the n pullled up and out . thru hole in screw bolt is the n rammed home and then powder charge , replacing breech and screwing tight.

Welcome!

And add me to the list of interested parties on the Armstrong gun!  ;D
It's quite a nice piece you have in the photo, I hope you do a thread on it.

The new thread would be nice. E.P. Alexander liked those breechloader Armstrongs but didnt like the heavy british carraige that came with them.

the original concept on the armstrong had a recoil system albeit gravity \return it was still light years ahead ! the recoil wasn't accepted due to cost?
and went into production with azimuth control and seats for gunnners doubling as ammo boxs , all well in advance of anything else in 1859(ww1 for alot of these features)
over wieght  maybe ? but alas outclassing every other out there . the problem was with leaking breechs on the things after heavy use in the larger calibers !that armstrong didnt want to make in the first place knowing the designs limitations(pic showing to good effect the carriage with azimuth control)

Fort shenandoah ? never been ? do they have compitition shoots there >? cause thats what i'd like to get into !
i had a 1841 mtn htzr that i shot quite a bit and my facorite story is of going up into the hills and shooting from hill to hill (300 to five hundred yards) and shooting steel hollow ball bearings at three inchs at a car hulk that eppeared there over the weekend (after checking it out) and calling in the shots closer and closer till there was aresounding KA_THUNK with lots of dust ! only thing better would have been trying to beet a nother team to on target!

Fort Shenadoah is at Winchester Virginia. Its the NSSA range there. Here in Michigan the cannoneers shoot all the way out to 1200 yards at Camp Grayling national guard base, range 35. I posted some pics on artillery impact damage aways back after the match which took place near the end of July 2007. This years match is the last weekend in July. What part of the country do you live in? There are guys here that can reccomend ranges from all across the US

I wanted to ask what is the grey steel carriage for? Looks like another interesting project,
also I notice the bronze ring that would be on the rear breach face on both photos are missing,
doesn't that have the means for attaching the rear sight?
