10" barrel forend ?
« on: July 11, 2003, 04:00:00 PM »
When I tighten the forend on my 10" barrels, because it only has one screw, it tries to turn to the side and causes contact at the left side of the frame. I have been using my feeler guage set and using enough gauges to hold the forend centered until it is tight. I cant be the only one who has this happen. What do you do? Also how much will this effect accuracy if it is allowed to touch like that? I would think a lot.

I don't think it will hurt much with that short a barrel, but it would be agrivating. It sounds like the barrel contour is wrong for the forend channel. It should fit pretty snug unless some one opened it up.  KN

Yep,I had the same problem with my 10" barrel too.Sold the wood and got a Pachmayr forend/grip.Found out after I did that all I had to do is glass-bed the forend on the wood one. This also improved accuracy as well.I would just glass-bed it easy to do and it will improve your accuracy.

Thanks for your replys KN & PJ. I was thinking of glass bedding it but I thought I would ask for advice here first. Thats a big part of why I come here every day. Get a little help, maybe give a little help and hang out with "friends". Thanks again.
