Old tasco pistol scopes? Thoughts?
« on: March 18, 2008, 07:57:06 AM »
I had an older (made in japan) 3x20 Tasco pistol scope on a Remington XP-100 in .35Rem for YEARS.
It seemed to work pretty great back then...nothing fancy, but it held zero and seemed to last.

I've got an opportunity to pick up another one, a like new 2x20 for $40. It comes with rings as well.

Just wonderin' what your thoughts are on these older tasco's. I'm on a budget, so price is a concern...and it's pretty darn hard to find a good condition pistol scope at an "economy" price.

It'd end up on a 22lr auto pistol.

I had a Japan made Tasco 4-12x40 TR on a 30-06 Rem 742 for over 30 years. It worked well until I swapped it to a Ruger 22 mag semi auto. I didn't know how bad these little rugers "ate" scopes. It finally killed it.

I have 3 other Japan made TRs I use every year, 2 4-16s and a 6-24. One sits on a Hornet, one on a swift, and the other on a 17HMR.

The new stuff they have is pretty much junk, but I like the older ones.

If you find one for free then try it, but I wouldn't purchase one new or old.  Use your money for a Leupold.

I have a 1.25-4x  long eye relief Tasco I bought for cheep and had it on a solid kicking 30x444 cal Contender and it held zero w/o a hitch, I've since had it on a 357 Max Contender and 44 mag Contender. It's now on a 45 Colt Redhawk and still going strong. I have had no problems with it. Maybe I've just been lucky but I'd buy another. I had a 2x leopold once, it was sold some time ago, but I still have the tasco if that means anything.
